Which do you prefer? Sibling to a Harry with a J surname

Sophie is my favourite girl's name.

If you have an Irish or other rhotic accent and pronounce the 'r', Orla is beautiful. Pronounced in a non-rhotic accent, not quite so much. 'Awla' really isn't pretty.

Sophie is gorgeous, so that's my pick.

Orla!

Anisty · 03/10/2024 00:57

I voted for Orla because i don't like Sophie at all. It reminds me of sofa.

But i DO really like Sophia. Had that been the other choice, i'd have chosen Sophia

Rosybud88 · 03/10/2024 00:54

I love them both but I got put off Orla by being told that in Hebrew it means foreskin. So for me, Sophie.

PeachCrab · 03/10/2024 00:39

Sophie, even though I love Orla, because you already have a Harry. I know this is a 'me' thing but I'd find it odd to have one kid with an Irish name and another without. Maybe it's because all the families I know who've chosen Irish names for their kids do it across the board. Unusual to me to have a Jane and an Oisin of that makes sense.

Orla, because Sophie/Sophy/Sofie/Sophia is so overused these days. Orla is lovely.

HighlandCow78 · 03/10/2024 00:09

Sophie, purely because Orla always autocorrects to ‘oral’ - sorry OP!!

MumChp · 02/10/2024 23:59

Sophie
