Pregnancy brain and the 'almost' baby names

Chatting with friends today about how pregnancy does crazy things to your brain and can make you absolutely fall in love with the most random names ever.

With my DD1, she is very fortunate not to be called 'Mango' (which my pregnancy brain decided was just the best name i had ever heard) 🙈🤣

One of the girls today had 'Skype' on her final list but hubby thankfully vetoed it, another wanted to call her son 'Duke'.

Has this happened to anyone else and you look back and think what the heck was I thinking? I don't just mean normal names you didn't pick, I mean totally random words that non pregnant you wouldn't even entertain!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Shocked at the first few responses being Velvet because that was my fave name as well 😂 it's so pretty! Also lavender but I didn't want jt shortned to lav

My maiden name is Leary (outing I know but I don't care) and for a fleeting moment I thought it would be great to name my son Lear (yes like King Lear)

That’s cool.

I know a 17 year old Wolf. Friends call him Wolfie. I always wonder what will happen after the bubble of independent school. I hope he is do confident in himself now that he won't give a shit what anythings of his name.

So popular as a name atm and yet wolves really are just not very nice. It’s the glassy, mean eyes that really bother me. And that’s before you even talk about fangs and killing things.

I know a baby Velvet. She has a sister with an equally unusual name. Lovely family despite their taste in baby names!

I wanted either Cherry or Sherry. Still not over that tbh. 😂

Cherry is actually cute 🍒 . I suspect it is only not used because of the “ can I pop your cherry” association, but it’s actually very sweet.

Some of the names on this thread, absolutely brilliant!
Pleased it wasn't just me 🤣🤣

Ingenue for a girl - despite the meaning, I still think it sounds so pretty in a French accent. Also Reverie- which is probably a touch more useable, but I still wouldn’t have actually done it 🤣.

Wolf for a boy - which isn’t that weird actually (still went for something much more “normal” though).

@PrincessHoneysuckle yes! 😂 all his suggestions were exclusively either Viking names or footballer names.

Dh wanted Ilsa for a girl, or Ragnor for a boy.
They're not to my taste personally.

Vikings fan?

Katrinawaves · 28/09/2024 21:50

I know someone who called her kid Zebedee (neither she nor her partner had any family history or heritage which might have normalised that). We all blinked when we were told but have moved on 😂

MelainesLaugh · 28/09/2024 21:43

Medal for my DD. I have absolutely no idea where that came from in my bizarre brain. I thought it would be amazing taking a little girl called Medal swimming.

My DH said no f-ing way!!!!

soundsys · 28/09/2024 21:40

Moth

I was at least going to put Timothy on the birth certificate. DH talked me out of it and DS is very grateful!

Also Zeb short for Zebedee, which I maintain DS could have pulled off! (But for which he is also grateful to DH for preventing)

Same!! Maybe it was googling your thread that put me off it 😂

Pregnant again though, so there’s still a possibility for a little Anemone…

Edited as misspelled Anemone. 😂😂😂

Edited

Do it! 😂

spanieleyes · 28/09/2024 21:15

Sapphire if it was a girl.

Thankfully I had a boy!

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 28/09/2024 21:12

Gordon

Anemone. This board stopped me, so thank you.

(secretly I still think it’s fabulous)

on a similar theme to my previous admission on ‘Velvet’ I also had ‘Calico’ on my list. I had boys thankfully and then pulled myself together by the time I had my daughter.

CherryValley5 · 28/09/2024 20:35

DD was nearly Heidi (after my midwife) or Portia! She wishes she was a Portia and to be honest I do agree that it would really suit her. It’s just so hard to picture the person that a tiny baby will grow up to be. She hates her name as apparently it’s too boring - teenagers….

spiderlight · 28/09/2024 20:27

My DH suggested Athelstan.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/09/2024 20:11

DH highlighted both 'Rolf' and 'Cornelius' in the baby names book. Our sons are named neither, thankfully. Name madness is not just for girls...

PrincessHoneysuckle · 28/09/2024 20:07

Bliss.
Romeo.
Valentino.
Rocky.

christmasfish · 28/09/2024 20:06

Didn't quite actually want the name but our baby names app suggested Skelflesh for a girl. I assume it was a glitch.

Every so often I wonder if someone named their newborn daughter Skelflesh.

MammaKel · 28/09/2024 20:03

I was gonna call my little boy Luther, absolutely loved it and wouldn't be swayed ..

He isn't called Luther thankfully 😆
