As the title says would really appreciate no one being too savage. I am asking for opinions but be gentle with me.
36 weeks pregnant with my third baby , first boy. With my girls I just knew their names nothing and no one could of swayed me but this time I'm struggling
There's one I LOVE but it is quite unique so that's what holds me back but then I think I look on this thread daily currently and in 20 years time when he's an adult his name is not going to stick out.
Surname one syllable Irish name.
Rocky
Sydney ( definitely spelt this way)
Phoenix
Harrison ( would like this as middle name to Rocky)
Sonny ( becoming really popular near me )

Thanks in advance

@mrssunshinexxx , it is shallow but people do judge names, appearance etc.
Even if they don't say anything, they will think it.

mrssunshinexxx · 29/09/2024 07:29

😂 thanks @Belshels will do

OP posts:
Belshels · 29/09/2024 03:18

Got it wrong, Sid James was the pervy man with the dirty laugh, not the camp one.

Belshels · 29/09/2024 03:07

I like Phoenix best, a little boy in my class was Phoenix and it suited him. Also like Rocky, but prefer Rocco.
Harrison, I don't like as a surname, and also for personal reasons. Sydney is a girl's name, and Sidney reminds me of the Carry On films and being very camp ( like Sidney James).
Good luck and let us know what you decide.

mrssunshinexxx · 29/09/2024 02:54

You're right @LondonTraveller I'm not 😂 I literally cannot make a decision this time going to park it until he's born.

LondonTraveller · 28/09/2024 23:10

@mrssunshinexxx I say this kindly, but based on the title of your thread it doesnt seem that you're entirely confident in your decision.

Other posters have pointed out how society may perceive and treat people with different names. Even with the best will in the world to instil confidence in your children, they will still have to face the world and cope with potential funny looks, constantly having to correct spelling or answer questions about their name. This may not happen of course, but it's something to consider.

mrssunshinexxx · 28/09/2024 18:31

I'm going to raise all mg children to be so confident and happy in their skin that they wouldn't look twice at someone who judged them by their name. How shallow @FayCarew

@mrssunshinexxx , I know some people who gave their children unusual names, and you get used to them, but people judge.

A child or adult with an attractive, popular name will be judged more favourably than one with an unattractive, unusual or 'out-there' name.

It's unfair, but life often isn't.

Holidayhell22 · 28/09/2024 08:12

There are lots of unusual names around now. Use the one you like but don’t try to be ‘unique.’
Thr only way you would achieve that is by calling your child a truly batshit name consisting of random words. For example Yellowballoon.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 24/09/2024 19:52

Harrison is the only one of those I'd give to a human baby.

This

Katielovesteatime · 28/09/2024 05:26

I’d only use Sydney (but I dislike this spelling and think it ruins it a bit) or Sonny

Daisybuttercup12345 · 27/09/2024 22:56

Only like Harrison for a child.
The rest suit dogs though.

mrssunshinexxx · 27/09/2024 20:52

Exactly @FayCarew. Lots of variety and nothing that everyone will like

OP posts:
Newdaylucky · 27/09/2024 20:44

I’d use Rocco Sidney Harrison - in this order.

FayCarew · 27/09/2024 20:34

Alfie, Milo, Bella and Ella seem popular. Smile

mrssunshinexxx · 27/09/2024 20:32

Not really @FayCarew they are things like river and Axel - IMO - awful

OP posts:
FayCarew · 27/09/2024 20:29

@mrssunshinexxx , You could have said that 30 years ago but the top names now are ones like Oliver and Amelia not something 'more unique'.

Have a look at a dog rescue centre's list of mutts looking for a new home.

MrsApplepants · 27/09/2024 20:01

My chihuahua is called Rocky. I don’t think it’s great for a human. Harrison is the best in your list.

Holidayhell22 · 27/09/2024 19:58

None of them would be my choice but I would not call a child Rocky. It just screams dog to me, and not a nice dog at that!
It sounds so rough. It’s been around ages- Sty Stallone? But still screams pit bull terrier owned by a track suit wearing, jewellery encrusted yob.
I agree that Sydney is the best from your list.

mrssunshinexxx · 27/09/2024 19:41

Thanks so much @Crunchymum

Congratulations on the upcoming arrival of your son @mrssunshinexxx

Please don't worry about other people's views on your names. None on your list are outlandish or horrible. Pick the name you love and use it with pride ❤️

LondonTraveller · 27/09/2024 12:21

@mrssunshinexxx that's a fair point but I still think it's best to allow your child options. People called Sarah and Kevin giving their children very usual names have no idea how difficult they could be making it for their child to navigate life.

I wonder how many Sunshine's, Bears and Apples will be legally changing their names once they're 18.

redtrain123 · 27/09/2024 11:19

Rocky - no
Sydney - not sure, ‘Y’ is female spelling?
Phoenix - yes for a girl
Harrison - yes
Sonny - yes-ish

mrssunshinexxx · 27/09/2024 11:17

@LondonTraveller I agree to an extent but nowadays people are using more modern and unique names that original so in 20/30 year tikes they really won't be anything different

Sidney is a good name.

I also love Roscoe if you'd consider that with Rocky as a pet name.

This is a good idea. Would also have the option of Ros(s) as a nickname if he ever decides he doesn't like Rocky.
