I really love Ivy but my name is Holly , is it THAT bad? Husband thinks I’m over thinking but I had already discounted any flower names for obvious reasons. I can’t use it can I?

Use it! I think it's absolutely fine, infact sweet!

HerewegoagainSS · 13/09/2024 13:38

It’s a lovely name, and your child is not attached to you - she is her own person in her own right and one day she will live independently, maybe even far away from you, and it won’t matter.
But…until that comes you do have to be prepared that people will make jokes and you can’t be annoyed or irritable about it even if you hear it a million times. Let’s be honest - it’s funny 🤣

Sorry, I immediately started singing 'the holly and the ivy'

I couldn't use it

And when people do this, just say "Yes! I know! We couldn't resist it!" With an enormous smile. :)

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/09/2024 12:59

It’s lovely.

I agree the connection is fine. The only question is whether you want a connection or not, because a portion of people will notice and some of those will comment.

It's a lovely name and the connection with your name is quite sweet. I agree with your husband and you should use it if you both really want to.

Agreed

fortheveryfirsttime · 13/09/2024 12:38

I think it's a lovely name and no reason you shouldn't use it.
But, I do now have the song going round my head so the association will be there. If you don't want anyone to comment then maybe don't use it.

SallyWD · 13/09/2024 12:35

Yes, use it!

thisuserhasnoname · 13/09/2024 12:35

I wouldn't even have got the connection really just hearing Holly and Mr Yesso have little Ivy.
Use it, it's a lovely name.

Jessieshome · 13/09/2024 12:30

I think it's cute. Why can't you use any flower names? There aren't any rules, lots of opinions of course, but no rules, you can both have flower/plant names if you want too. You might get the odd laugh from the odd idiot, but mostly people will either not notice or it'll give them a nice smile.

DoublePeonies · 13/09/2024 12:28

Yes, you can use Ivy for your daughter (but maybe not a son!).
