Hi all

Does anyone have any suggestions for a boys name that might lend itself to the nickname Ibby? Even if it’s a bit of a stretch!

Thanks!!

@Spideylucy Why do you want the nn ibby?
I know loads of ppl whose nn have nothing to do with their given name

Mandarinaduck · 08/09/2024 21:24

Similar to Isambard - Isidore

Firsttimebabymummy · 08/09/2024 20:24

I first name and B second? Bit of a sketch.

But like Isaac Billy

I know a girl that goes by Effie and her name is Florance Evelyn (F-E)

Haribo16 · 08/09/2024 20:02

Maybe too much of a stretch but Albie with the nickname Ibby.

JBJ · 08/09/2024 19:33

Kalib? I think it's a derivative of Caleb, but easier to shorten to what you need

Ibble-dibble?

The British royal family, joined by then-prime minister Margaret Thatcher, play a quirky parlor drinking game called “Ibble Dibble.” It involves tongue-twisters, dotting your face with the charred end of a wine cork, and getting very drunk.

Whilst we just pull crackers and wear paper hats...🙁

I know an Isabelle who is nn Ibby so I think Isambard lends itself really well to it as suggested by pp.

Ibbotson

I know an Ibby and he's Ibrahim

Yes, that's been said quite a few times upthread. I think that's the most popular usage.

Could go for a stretch though OP if Libby is a nn for Elizabeth!

Alongthepineconetrail · 08/09/2024 08:50

The Ibby I know is Ibrahim, the Muslim version of the name Abraham.

TheBlackCatWithTheWhiteSpot · 08/09/2024 08:44

Could you base the nickname off initials IB instead?

Ivan Benjamin or something like that?

(though Isambard) is a great suggestion!

FoxtrotOscarKindaDay · 08/09/2024 08:41

Gottlieb
Tiberius

Ignatius (stretch from Iggy)

Full go crazy and move to Glasgow - Ibrox

maudelovesharold · 08/09/2024 08:39

Isaac (nn don’t have to relate precisely to the full name!)

Catandsquirrel · 08/09/2024 08:35

Isambard is cool!

Catandsquirrel · 08/09/2024 08:34

Ibhar (one of King David's son's in the bible, don't know his full story)
Ivor or Ivan although I don't think Ibby will stick, the /I/ sound is different
Ibrahim
Ibzan was a biblical judge in Israel
Ibadat comes from Arabic, it pertains to prayer and devotion

Isambard ? (The bridge architect)

Oooh, I like it! He'd be the only one.

Yeah I know 😂 as soon as I wrote it I thought…nope….maybe if you pronounce Caleb - ‘Calib’…..but yeah, you’re right!

😁shame, it's such a nice name!

Caleb is a lovely name, but I've never heard it shortened. Ibby is a stretch!
