Which name between Lucy and Katie

Liverpoollass2 · 07/09/2024 18:35

We like both, partner prefers one I prefer the other can't decide

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
readyforroundthree · 08/09/2024 12:30

I don't understand the replies on some of these threads.
The Op specifically asked for votes between Katie and Lucy and she gets random comments either saying both names are awful, or suggestions of other names which she didn't ask for 🤣
If you don't like either name then just don't comment.

My choice would be Lucy, between the two.

Lucy Letby and Katie Price.

Those were my first thoughts.

Any other names op?

They are both names with long long histories

Her peers won't know who either of these women are

theduchessofspork · 08/09/2024 10:35

I'd go for Katherine / Catriona / Caitlin etc nn Katie

But if you mean as a standalone name then Lucy

Same but didn't dare say!

Katie is common as muck and cheap sounding and the Lucy's I have known are total bitches. Very sorry.

patchworkbear · 08/09/2024 01:48

Pressed send too soon: and I know a Lucy who is a bit of a bitch. I'd choose something else.

patchworkbear · 08/09/2024 01:47

Don't like either I'm afraid. I know a very 'wishwashy' Katie and one that's a 'control freak' and 'always right'.

ellenpartridge · 08/09/2024 00:33

Lucy

BebbanburgIsMine · 08/09/2024 00:27

Lucy

That's my DD2's name and I think it's beautiful

IsleOfPenguinBollards · 08/09/2024 00:10

Both names are nice and feel fresher to me than many of the names starting with vowels which are popular at the moment.

I’m in my early 40s and grew up with many girls called Katie. Almost all of them now go by Kate, Kat or Cath. So I would go with a long version of the name (e.g. Catherine or Katrina), so your DD can choose which short form she prefers. She might change her mind as she matures or as fashions change. I remember when many elderly Elizabeths were known as Betty and the younger ones were Liz/Lizzie/Libby. Now, Lizzie sounds a bit dated and Betty/Betsy seem to be making a comeback.

I like Lucy, apart from it reminding me of the word “loose”. Also, it can sound a bit twee with certain surnames, especially those which start with “L” or end in an “ee” sound. But it’s pretty and feminine without being frilly.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/09/2024 23:34

Eep, they are perfectly normal names - but I’m struggling to pick as I’ve never liked Lucy - too close to loose, yet Katie as a given name is a bit “cute” and quite 90’s. But I guess I’ll pick Katie since it can at least be shortened to Kate if she wants. I do much prefer classic Katherine though.

If 90’s cute is your style you might also like Amy? Not exactly my cup of tea but prettier than both Katie and Lucy imo.

We had Lucy and Kate on our list. We went for Kate in the end as it sounded less babyish than Katie…. People have called her Katie in the past. She’s 11 now and has always been good at putting people straight 😂… It happens less now she’s older which confirms to me that Katie is a childish name.

We’ve never come across another child Kate.

Edited

I know a few Katie's in their 30s and 40s. Definitely not childish!

TeamPolin · 07/09/2024 23:22

Lucy.

When I was growing up Katie was everywhere. There were at least 6 in my year at secondary. I'm so bored of it now.

urghhh47 · 07/09/2024 21:33

Love Katie and Lucy. My Ds 's girlfriend is Katie - she's 19. He calls her Kate but I use Katie. My middle name is Kate but my mum used to call me name Katie/Katy and I wish it were Katie/Katy. I have a friend with a 14yr old Katy. I have a few friends called Katie - all in their 30/40s - most are short for Katherine, whereas the younger ones I know are not.

LocalHobo · 07/09/2024 21:32

The Lucy's I know are lovely as is the one Katie I know. I also lean towards using the Lucinda and Katherine option officially though. It allows your DD to choose her identity a little more than a 'sweet and pretty' name being imposed on her.

Doyouknowdanieltiger · 07/09/2024 21:25

Lucy Letby and Katie Price.

Beautiful3 · 07/09/2024 21:24

Both aren't nice. Lucy is slightly better than Katie.

ShineBrightly · 07/09/2024 21:23

How about Katy with a 'y'? Makes it more of a name in its own right, rather than short for something else :)

BoleynMemories13 · 07/09/2024 21:18

I much prefer Lucy. I grew up with quite a few girls called Katie, and none of them were nice people unfortunately so I have bad associations with this name.

Lucy is lovely though. A traditional classic but still feels fresh and in fitting with current trends.

FayCarew · 07/09/2024 21:08

Kate

Moreteaandchocolate · 07/09/2024 20:54

I have a Lucy and she loves her name! No regrets! We also have a Katie in the family and she loves her name too, both are gorgeous timeless classics 😊

Lucia
Lucinda nn Lucy

Katerina nn Katie
Katya

I prefer Lucia and Katya/Katerina as they sound more grown up and will serve her better when she's grown up. Lucy and Katie suit children but not adults.

They don't sound grown up, they sound Eastern European!
Not that there's an issue if that's what you're going for but I don't think the OP is.

Judellie · 07/09/2024 20:18

Katie as I don't think I know any young Katies.
Ther are loads of kids called Lucy.

CrazyCatsandIcecream · 07/09/2024 19:46

I hate Lucy, sorry op. I just think of juicy Lucy goosey, no idea why as most names do rhyme with other words! It also doesn't help with Lucy letby all over the news atm.
Kate I prefer to Katie.

I wasn't going to say it but since you did , first thing I thought was Lucy letby

Lucy definitely. Works nicely on a little girl and an older person in a work environment. ☺️
