Not keen on anything too American or too Irish, something that not usually pronounced in the rest of the uk, unless you live there. Being named after a celebrity or celebrities child.
The trend for some old people's names doesn't appeal, Arthur, Maggie.

MontyVerdi · 30/08/2024 17:00

Gobnait - just doesn't gel with me at all.

Belshels · 30/08/2024 16:59

I've come across Lettice and that's not good IMO.
Some of the old man names such as Stanley, Alfred, Albert, dot keen on

MerryMarys · 30/08/2024 16:59

Any name that is no longer doing its job In naming or identifying someone!

So overused names like Theo or Eve - there are just sooo many...!

MontyVerdi · 30/08/2024 16:58

Actually I've not come across a surname as first name in Ireland. Might happen in Northern Ireland?

wakeboarder · 30/08/2024 16:58

I don't like names such as Corvette, Porsche or Chelsea ( babies named after cars, football teams etc). Also names not conventional spelling ie Rebekka rather than Rebecca ( it's not the names in these instances, just the spelling)!

Mugcake · 30/08/2024 16:58

Natalie, no real reason it just sounds ugly to me.

Hugo
Leslie
Chantelle

Surnames as names. An awful American invention.

Are you sure it's an American tradition? It happens in Scotland so I wonder if it originated there and then was adopted in America

I used to know a Peregrine! He had a brother called Merlin. Apparently they were named after the planes, rather than the birds

Wow! What fabulously eccentric names!

themidimit · 30/08/2024 16:55

Hate Poppy. So twee. And surnames as names - like Mason.

Soditsally · 30/08/2024 16:55

I love Arlo !!!! 😂😂😂🥴
Good job I'm too old for a baby

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 30/08/2024 16:54

@SophiaJ8 nope. Been here for about 16 years, you?

What a horrible thread. Totally unnecessary. People like and dislike all kinds of things but usually keep the to themselves so as not to hurt other people.

Are you new here?

I dislike many names but feel it's inappropriate to mention which ones because it's rude and potentially hurtful.

My name, both my parents' names and both my children's middle names have been mentioned, along with some hurtful comments. You're right.

Plus silly posh names like Araminta, Atticus, Peregrine and Olympia.

😂😂 don’t think I’ve ever come across one of these as a name of a person! Isn’t a peregrine a falcon?? They are slightly strange for human names!

Elouise. It's just Louise with an E on it 😭

Except it’s not. It’s actually spelt as Eloise and has nothing to do with Louise.

hildabaker · 30/08/2024 16:51

Malcolm
Travis
Beverly
Derek
Avril
Margery

Roundaboot · 30/08/2024 16:50

Fleur. It's just such a horrible sound, like ugh.

Ella/Elle is just such a nothing name. You've literally just called your baby "She".

Starlight1979 · 30/08/2024 16:50

Oh and Leighton!

Starlight1979 · 30/08/2024 16:49
