We welcomed our little boy on Friday and have yet to decide on a name. Please help us decide on what to call him, he’s such a sweet little character and I’m starting to worry that he will forever be known as ‘baby’ as we can’t decide!!

Names we have on our list so far that we like are -

Charlie
Freddie
Albie
Archie

Would love to hear thoughts and also any suggestions.

From your list I only like Charlie. Freddie is OK but I dislike Albie and Archie.

Freddie 🥰

Waterboatlass · 27/08/2024 08:24

Give him a full version, Albert or Frederick are fabulous names.

theveryhungrybum · 27/08/2024 08:23

Archer - Archie for short?
Henry
Simon
Matthew

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/08/2024 08:20

I like Albie. Based on your list other names you might lIke:

Herbie. George. Toby. Stanley. Oscar. Teddy. Alfie. Tommy. Billy. Howie. Frankie. Arthur. Sonny. Bertie.

Firsttimebabymummy · 27/08/2024 07:30

I like Chariie form your list. I don't actually like any of the others.

Also like the suggestions of Fraser, Matthew, Jamie and Alexander.

Another vote for Albert nn Albie

BoleynMemories13 · 27/08/2024 05:08

Whilst still widely used today, I feel Charlie is the least 'now' of all your choices. You wouldn't be able to automatically guess the name of a Charlie, as it's very classic used across generations, whereas most Archies will be under 15 or 80+.

Freddie again is mainly used on under 15s, with Fred for 80+, but not that many inbetween as it really died away then came back.

Albie feels a very modern short form for Albert, with Bert being more traditional. I would expect an Albie to likely be under 10 if I heard it.

Therefore I'm more drawn to Charlie out of those 4, as I like classic names.

If you like the 'ee' sound at the end, have you considered something like Louis? It gives you the same ending, without being a diminutive of something else. Same with Finley and Jesse, although they feel more modern. There's Zachary too, and Henry. Harry, whilst technically a diminutive, seems more similar to Charlie in that it has been used across many generations. Tommy too. Ollie?

Charlie is a good choice though. I'd go for Charlie.

ellenpartridge · 27/08/2024 01:05

From your list I would pick Charlie

Suggestions that I think are a similar vibe, Finn, Flynn, Toby, Max, Arlo

DickEmery · 27/08/2024 00:22

Congratulations on your baby boy OP. All those names are lovely. I think maybe Albie is my favourite from your list but they're all really good.

Similar sounding names are maybe
Laurie
Sammie
Ritchie

Have lots of fun gazing at your wee man and working out who he is.

redtrain123 · 27/08/2024 00:20

Congratulations.

Charlie - classic name (or Charles , nn Charlie)

Charlie

LadyGAgain · 27/08/2024 00:00

Congratulations!
Your names are all lovely. They are very popular at the moment.
If we had a son he would be Fletcher, Quinn or Caspar. Probably a few less of them in the same classroom - not that this matters!!

Scissor · 26/08/2024 23:55

Roderick gives you Rory, Roddy, Derry or Ricky diminutives.
Plus loads more that aren't an "y" ending.
It's a great name!

User6761 · 26/08/2024 23:43

Nor personally a fan of boys 'ie' names in general. But two exceptions that I do like are Jamie and Brodie.

Love PPs suggestions of Fraser, Matthew and Alexander.

Raquelos · 26/08/2024 23:34

I like Ziggy, given to an adorable little boy I know. If you need it to be short for something then Sigmund works as a family name inspiration.

Or Asti, genuinely short (in the case I know) for Aethelstan

KenIsAnAccessory · 26/08/2024 23:32

I like all of your names! Others with a similar vibe:

Rory
Francis (Frankie)
Jacob (Jakey)
Edward (Ted, Teddy, Bear)
Theodore (Theo)

Numsmetty · 26/08/2024 23:32

Alfred.. it gives you the choice of Alfie or Freddie

DiscoBeat · 26/08/2024 23:29

I really like Edward. So many options: Teddy, Ed, Eddie, Woody, but Edward/Ed still a good name for a professional adult male.

Popettypop · 26/08/2024 23:27

Jonty
Brodie
Gino
Stanley

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 26/08/2024 23:27

Jack

Arthur

Sydney

Oliver

Louis

Bertie

James
