Retro girl names

I only have a few days before I’m due and we still haven’t decided on a name. We’ve narrowed down boys names to Dale, Lyle, Floyd and Dean. I know these names won’t be to everyone’s taste but they’re what we’ve decided on and we’ll most likely wait and see what name suits the baby the most.

For girls we are a bit stuck, we like similar names to what we do for boys, sort of mid-century maybe even a bit ‘dated’ and not very common now. More retro than vintage. We like Darla, Patsy, Tansy and Thelma/Velma but not dead happy with any of them. Darla is probably our favourite but I think it’s becoming a bit more popular. I prefer prettier names for girls than I do for boys. Any ideas?.

I vote for Twyla! Gorgeous, underused name!

Twyla is our favourite. Our only draw back is if we have another baby in the future and it’s a boy Lyle is the top of our boys name list and I worry they’re too similar.

My DD is Patsy Dawn

And I've not met a single person (at least face to face) who doesn't love it.

Such a beautiful name! Dawn is a middle name contender for us too

My favourite is Jill.

There was a character called Jill in a Bunty annual that I had as a young teen. She was very cool and I've loved the name ever since.

No suggestions for girls but in this age of Isla/ Delilah etc pls don't call your son Lyle as a first name

kfellover · 26/08/2024 21:12

Love Dawn and Moira.

@farleysrusks yes Velma was from Scooby-Doo!. When I was a child I had a very similar hair cut and glasses and was always compared to her, I’ve loved the name ever since!.
