Oakley for a girl?

I’ve just found the baby name board and I’m new here. 💜
can I ask people’s opinions of the name Oakley for a girl please? And reasons for disliking it, if you do!
Does it go with sisters Scarlett and Bella?

thank you 💕

As a primary school teacher, I've met a handful of boy Oakley's but never a girl one.

To me, it's one of those names that's cute when they're 5, but absolutely unsuited to a 35yo builder, married and a dad of 3. "Hi, I'm Oakley, I've come to quote for your new windows?"

timoteigirl · 27/08/2024 15:59

Only heard of it for a boy before. Didn't think of sunglasses but rather an old name in the family vibes, or alternatively botanical name.

Other names on the list:
Romy
Willow
Fleur
Faith

Romy Iris or Romy Fay doesn't really go together, though, imo.
Not Fleur or Faith for the same reason.

Annie Oakley was great so it is a yes from me

I was going to aay it immediately made me think of Annie Oakley!

Not as a girl's name, sorry, verityrosa.
She'd be the odd one out as it sounds like a boy's name.

Romy 👍

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 27/08/2024 08:33

I see it as more of a boy's name although I'm not quite sure why (have never met anyone with it as a first name). Maybe just because it feels kind of "surnamey."

I need to know who the celebrity dachshund Oakley belongs to 😅🤣

Have a look on Instagram. I made a mistake - it's Crusoe The Celebrity Dachshund, and it's his brother that's called Oakley. They also have Daphne and Delilah. I think they may live in Florida, or maybe they holiday there. They used to post really funny videos about Crusoe and his brother Oakley, pretending they were cooking, playing tennis, being firefighters, etc etc. but poor old Cru is a bit ancient now.

FayCarew · 26/08/2024 14:09

If you like it, you like it. It's a bit too close to Oky Doky for me.

Suki's fine, I know a few, but they might spell it differently. I haven't asked.

BobbyBiscuits · 26/08/2024 13:58

@FayCarew well I like it. What about Suki Waterhouse? I guess some people might not like her name either...

user1492757084 · 26/08/2024 11:20

Fleur Iris is smart.

Do you like Rowena Fay?

Feelingstrange2 · 26/08/2024 09:49

Nice for a dog.

What about L'Oréal, or May Belline.

FayCarew · 26/08/2024 09:48

BobbyBiscuits · 25/08/2024 23:43

I think I actually prefer it for a girl. But I'm feeling it's a bit 'trendy' so may not age that well.
What about Oki? I think that's unisex? Obviously it's quite unusual, but similar sounding.

Oki might be a Japanese name but I don't think it works in the UK.

FayCarew · 26/08/2024 09:45

leighks123 · 25/08/2024 22:46

I actually loved this name for a girl spelt Oakleigh buttt you brutal lot have put me off completely 😂😂

It's even worse than Oakley, which I don't like for a boy or girl.

00BonneMaman00 · 26/08/2024 08:28

Scarlett Bella and....

Flora
Leah
Paloma
Darcy
Chloe
Florence
Ava
Grace
Camille
Lucia

crostini · 26/08/2024 08:28

I really like it! Would assume boy if written down but suits girl too.
I don't think its the same vibe as your other children though

AgnesX · 26/08/2024 07:56

It sounds like a pair of sunglasses 😎

TeaAndStrumpets · 26/08/2024 07:55

verityrosa · 25/08/2024 22:46

Absolutely love this name, but dislike the butter association 😭

Gosh never even thought about that! Florence is also nice.

joolsella · 26/08/2024 07:45

Oh! Pick Faye or Iris for first name

Oakley is too trendy and will age badly

Freysimo · 26/08/2024 07:41

verityrosa · 25/08/2024 21:38

With the name Romy, can anyone think of possible teasing? Any negative associations? Do you know any?

Boris and Carrie have a daughter called Romy.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 26/08/2024 07:25

A couple of posts previous suggested Hazel.

That (imo) works well with your existing names and middle names. Still on the the nature theme and a beautiful name.

My test of a name is could it be in lights if they were a film star, be called out in a pub, and work well in a board meeting. Hazel ticks all those boxes.

BrightLightTonight · 26/08/2024 07:21

Definitely not - it’s the name of a horsebox/lorry. Even worse than the sunglasses

saveforthat · 26/08/2024 07:18

saraclara · 25/08/2024 21:19

Every second girl toddler is called Willow, though.

Willow is a very popular name for dogs.

Moreteaandchocolate · 26/08/2024 07:15

Romy
Willow
Fleur
Faith

I like all of these suggestions - I think I like Willow best, it goes beautifully with Scarlett and Bella, and I can imagine it working for my teenager as much as my younger kids.

I also like Romy - I know a little girl with the name, and it’s another name that works well as a teen.

I love Fleur but I agree that it varies so much with accents and not sure how good it would sound where I live!

And Faith maybe sounds a bit more serious than your other names - less easy to imagine on my teen girl maybe (but I’m sure it would have different associations once I met a cool teen called Faith!)

Do you like
Isla
Mabel
Eliza
Lyra
Amber
Ruby
Cleo
Phoebe
Freya
Erin
Esme
Summer
Sienna
Hazel

Sorenlorrenson · 26/08/2024 06:52

Sunglasses.
Also very ugly sounding.

sleepwithblanket · 26/08/2024 06:50

Oakley is a mining town near where i live. It’s a bit rough. A no for me. I like Willow. I don’t know any children called Willow, only a Labrador.
