What do you think of Roderick

What do you think of Roderick? With possible nickname Roddy or Ro. It has same origins as Spanish Rodrigo. I don't know what to think of Roderick, but I kinda like it because I'm trying to find longer names to add to my list, that are also unusual and acceptable, but don't really like Rodrigo.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
shoopshoopdedoo · 24/08/2024 17:43

I don’t love it, but I think it’s OK

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 24/08/2024 17:20

Going against the grain here - I like it. And it's not that uncommon here in Scotland, in the sort of families that might have a Campbell or a Murray or a Findlay in the family.

Moveoverdarlin · 24/08/2024 16:52

Makes me think of Rodney from OFAH.

Rodrigo is cool and Mediterranean, Roderick is awful IMHO.

abracadabra1980 · 24/08/2024 16:50

Awful. Rhodri or Rory

xyz111 · 24/08/2024 16:43

Sir Roderick lost his head... that's all it makes me think of, sorry!!

Kitkat1523 · 24/08/2024 16:42

Don’t do it 🙄

SonicTheHodgeheg · 24/08/2024 16:42

Makes me think of famous Rods- Only fools and horses, Rod, Jane and Freddie (no idea if Rod is his full name) or Rod Hull (his death is very sad)

(My kids would only know Rodney from Only Fools)

MouseofCommons · 24/08/2024 16:38

Life of Brian.

CindyBirdsong · 24/08/2024 16:35

It's my husbands middle name, always makes me laugh.
So it's a no from me.

It's not, it's Dave.

😂😂

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/08/2024 16:33

Rory Stewart is a Roderick, he clearly prefers Rory. Not keen op.

Another Welease Woderwick Grin

The film is a classic, and although it's probably less watched now, I don't think this association will ever quite go away

All I can think of now is
‘Welease Woderwick’

PianPianPiano · 24/08/2024 14:34

Yup, that's all I think of too 😂

And me!! It was my first thought 😂.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/08/2024 15:11

DH has a cousin called Roderick, who goes by Rick (50s).

Me too, showing my age.

Xyz1234567 · 24/08/2024 14:54

Mmm, it's an amalgamation of rod and dick or roddy dick, neither of which creates pretty pictures in my mind, sorry.

Redlarge · 24/08/2024 14:51

Rodders

lollyPaloozah · 24/08/2024 14:50

if you like Roderick how about Alaric? Bit of a nicer sound

WildCherryBlossom · 24/08/2024 14:50

Welease Wodewick was my first thought too. I suppose not that many school children are Monty Python fans so it's probably ok to use it.

At lease 2 of my DC would think of this but they are probably in the minority at schools these days in having a Monty Python quote ready for any conceivable situation.

Me too. OP it’s a terrible name. What has your poor baby done for you to consider that name

lollyPaloozah · 24/08/2024 14:45

Not keen at all
