Alternative to Matilda

When expecting my boys I had my heart set on Matilda if they had been girls.
Unfortunately, a couple of friends have used it so don't think I can anymore without looking like I'm copying.
Also, I dislike Tilly as a nickname. Don't really like nicknames full stop.
What else would I like?
Welcome to comment on above situation and if you think I should still use it anyway.

If you love Matilda you can still use it. In a decade you might not still be in touch with the people who used it ‘first’ and even if you are it’s ok! Equally you could pick a less common name and the might be three in her school classroom. Go with your gut.

Elodie??

How close are you to these 'Friends'? How likely are you to be close friends in 5 years time - realistically. How much time are you likely to spend with them, with the kids??

There are unlimited names, personally I'd choose something else, unless you have a deep connection with it (your mothers name or something)

Older names that feel similar may ne names like Tabitha, Theophila, Philomena, Araminta or Arabella. Mildred.

Slightly more modern names: Martina, Tamara, Madeleine.

Edie

All names I also like :)

StellaCruella · 14/08/2024 22:02

Or Minerva

StellaCruella · 14/08/2024 22:00

I have a Matilda who is not Tilly - she is Matilda to everyone apart from her little brother who calls her Tilda and me and DH sometimes call her Matty or Mats.

If you love the name use it - I knew someone who had used the name and asked if she would mind when I was pregnant - she was obviously totally fine with it.

Other name options - Margot?

RedOnyx · 14/08/2024 21:39

Io would get shortened to I.

NuffSaidSam · 14/08/2024 17:42

Molone · 14/08/2024 17:19

Most of these names would be shortened - Meg, El, Al, Hel, Pol so if OP doesn’t like nicknames I wouldn’t choose these.

All names can be shortened like that, the OP's child will have to be nameless or have a name that is one letter.

And as someone with a very short name I can tell you that that people will then lengthen it!
