I was nearly called Deborah or Scarlett.

They were in my parents top three names.

Then they finally chose my name.

I feel a bit of a connection to those other two names.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Lucille. After the Kenny Rogers song being in the charts when I was born 😀

Berlinlover · 08/08/2024 19:33

Roisin, it’s the Irish for Rose.

WinterNightStars · 08/08/2024 19:32

Nicola or Geraldine

WishICouldWinnow · 08/08/2024 19:32

Ruth or Grace

@honeyfox those are the actual middle names of my brother and I. I think I was going to be Elaine but it ended up in the middle.
My brother was thankfully called after his grandfathers in the end - my mum wanted him to be Damian John and my dad wanted him to be Hamish Alexander!

Elaine.

My brother would have been Raymond.

I really hate the name Elaine I find it grates on me when I hear it said out loud !

TheForgetfulCat · 08/08/2024 19:29

Meg short for Margaret. Scuppered by Australian cousin named Megan. Got it as a middle instead.
I think Margaret/Meg/Maggie is almost cool again. My actual name is fine but every second kid in the late 70s was called it and it has yet to have its comeback moment.

My parents maintain to this day that the only name my Dad could think of for me was Agamemnon.

I'm neither a man or the King of Mycea!

Also, massively outing as my cousin's still call me it now. There can't be many of us.

NiceParkingRita · 08/08/2024 19:27

I was born before scans were a thing and my parents were told I was twins. As they already had three boys they presumed I was going to be two boys and decided on calling me (us?) Dominic and Nathaniel.

Once I was born they picked a random girls name from a book. It's fairly uncommon and most people pronounce it wrong, but I like it!

Pallisers · 08/08/2024 19:26

Abigail.

tillytoodles1 · 08/08/2024 19:25

Agnes after my Nan as my dad was an only child. Luckily my mum chose to call me after herself instead.

Anabella321 · 08/08/2024 19:25

Déirdre.

honeyfox · 08/08/2024 19:24

Elaine.

My brother would have been Raymond.

Jessieshome · 08/08/2024 19:24

Estella (from Great Expectations)
Rosina (after a great grandmother)
Or Andrew if I was a boy.

Coastalcreeksider · 08/08/2024 19:22

Karen. In view of how the name is used as a sneery put down these days, I'm glad they didn't call me that.

Mallory

ElspethofEcclefechan · 08/08/2024 19:22

No idea! I have 3 x given names though as I think they expected me to be their last dc and only dd. Surprise dsis arrived two years later though!

My dcs were nearly Elizabeth and Marcus. Dd would have been James if a boy, but I'd gone off it by the time we had ds. Ds would have been Maria

Meadowwild · 08/08/2024 19:21

Deborah - which I hate. Not sure why, I just hate it.

Or Miriam, which I love.

My name is okay. I wouldn't choose it and it's not that popular so clearly most other people feel the same. Grin

KezzabellaB · 08/08/2024 19:21

If I'd have been a boy I was going to be called Jonathan James (yes just like the shoe shop!) Grin

ItsMintUpNorth · 08/08/2024 19:20

Holly, there was 5 in my year at high school so glad I wasn't!
