What were you nearly called?

I was nearly called Deborah or Scarlett.

They were in my parents top three names.

Then they finally chose my name.

I feel a bit of a connection to those other two names.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mortigua · 08/08/2024 19:57

Sandra or Cara (depending on if my siblings
named me or parents )

alloutofcareunits · 08/08/2024 19:55

Apparently my Dad wanted to call me October or Tabitha (from Bewitched) I ended up with the name of quite a famous film star and they didn't even realise until after I'd been called it 🙄 every teacher I used to have would comment at the beginning of term

CaptainCallisto · 08/08/2024 19:53

Roberta. I half wish I'd had that rather than my actual name. I was one of three at secondary school, and really resented it, though like it well enough aside from that.

I'd have been Richard if I'd been a boy.

Jade. My father put his foot down though.

Exactly the same here. My Mum loved names like Jade (her favourite) Crystal and Coral...
My Dad's choice was much more traditional shall we say!

Benshawsberries · 08/08/2024 19:52

Beatrice or Neil

My mum wanted Georgia and my dad wanted Jessica.

So how they ended up with Lauren is baffling to me 🤣

Oh I liked Georgia for my eldest it's a lovely name. Don't worry I'm not your mum she isn't a Lauren 😀

elm26 · 08/08/2024 19:48

Ryan if I was a boy

Ellen or Erin were top contenders and one of those is my name.

TomatoSandwiches · 08/08/2024 19:48

Kimberly or Kylie.. the name I was given is nothing remotely similar, far more classical than dated 80s.

If I were a boy, Henry which I think is a decent name.

Berga · 08/08/2024 19:46

Victoria. Apparently I popped out and didn't look anything like a Victoria. So I got given a non-traditional name and when I use the full hyphenated version I sound like I should be a country and western singer. My dad also spelt it wrong when he went to the registry office, which my mum has never let him forget.

tedgran · 08/08/2024 19:46

Maiden name Brown, mother German, father wanted to call me Eva, I was born not long after the war! I think(hope) that he was joking!

UltramarineViolet · 08/08/2024 19:45

If I was a boy I would have been called Harry (born in 1974)

I remember thinking this was dreadful as a child but it was well ahead of the curve and would be pretty cool for a 49yo now!

Linnet · 08/08/2024 19:43

Debbie or Caroline, if I could choose from those two I’d have gone with Caroline. But they went with their other choice which is now my name which is ok but there were 3 of us in my year at primary and 5 of us in my year at secondary.

I think my brother would have been Mark but again they went with something else.

hereismydog · 08/08/2024 19:43

I was almost Lily! Obviously I wasn’t floral enough Grin

ComealongMartha · 08/08/2024 19:42

@Abigail47 I like that.

softmauve · 08/08/2024 19:42

Juliette or Richard
My actual name is classic and timeless

ComealongMartha · 08/08/2024 19:42

Jemima.

If I was male I would have been Thomas or William.

Abigail47 · 08/08/2024 19:40

I was reading this really interesting spiritual book lately.

It said that the babies parents don't pick the babies name.

The soul of the baby picks the name . And the parents pick up on the vibration.

Very interesting

If a boy Dominic or Stephen ...
We are twins
Thankfully we were girls but I do live these names my name is a bit meh. A traditional Welsh name but cannot be shortened. And no one spells it right, even in Wales.

Littlebitpsycho · 08/08/2024 19:39

LemonySnickets · 08/08/2024 19:38

Tracey. My actual name is better. Just. Grin

MagicianMoth · 08/08/2024 19:38

Danielle. My actual name is more of a timeless classic. I can’t imagine being called Danielle, but no doubt I would have been shortening it to Dannii and putting hearts over the i’s in 80s fashion.

Actually I don’t even know how to spell it - is it Danielle or Dannielle?

My mum and dad were both dead set on my name and had no alternative. They would have struggled had I been a boy.
I went through all my school years being the only ‘name’ in the school, then at college there were two of us in a class of 6!

MeOldBamboo · 08/08/2024 19:36

Mercedes or Holly. If a boy, Benjamin.

MadameMassiveSalad · 08/08/2024 19:35

Estella (from Great Expectations)
Rosina (after a great grandmother)
Or Andrew if I was a boy.

Love Estella too!
