I am 37 weeks pregnant and still can't find a name that both my husband and I like. My husband really likes one of these names, but I don't like it because it is very common in Russian communities. Nearly all of my friends have a girl with this name.
Sometimes I think that if he really wants to name our girl this and I don't have strong preferences, I should probably let him have his way. This is a very late pregnancy, our older son is 18, and we have always wanted a girl. Please wish us good luck! :):)

I love the name Taya! Not sure if it's pronounced Tie-a or tay-a but I like both. I've taught a Taia before (tie-a, short for Taisia or Taisiya, not sure) and a Téa (tay-a).
I also like Zoe, Maria and Maya... not fond of Tess but I like Tessa!

@JRBS , baby name sites aren't generally reliable. The Bump lists Jayden, Noah and Atlas as gender-neutral.

Micah is a boy's name. It would be like calling a girl Michael, or Samuel, Daniel or John or something.

Mika is a gender-neutral name.

I like Mika but spelt Micah. I voted for Zoe it's a lovely name x

JimNast · 03/08/2024 07:07

Théa pronounced Taya is OK

miniaturepixieonacid · 03/08/2024 01:53

I voted Mika - really like it and it's a bit different without being weird.

I also really like Maya and Zoe.

The only one I don't really like Taya. No idea why, it just doesn't roll off the tongue as a name to me.

The others are all fine - not necessarily names I'd choose but good, solid options.

I can't see any names to vote

I think some people can't see the polls on Mumsnet. It depends on what device you use.

SkaneTos · 02/08/2024 21:19

I think they are all good names.
I voted for the first option, Mary or Maria. Classic names.

Onelittlebluefish · 31/07/2024 18:57

I voted Zoe. Maria is lovely too…

JimNast · 31/07/2024 12:15

@JRBS , I can't see the names either, I copied them from a post.

Yes: Tess, Zoe, Mary, Maria, in that order - none seem overused and are known names. All seem pretty.
No: Maya - lots of similar names around. Seems nothingy. May-a or My-a?
Bella - done to death here. Every other dog or cat seems to be a Bella
Mika - Meeka/My-ka? Too close to Micah, Mia, Maya etc
Taya - Seems nothingy. Tay-a or Ty-a? Makes me think of Tayto.

I'm in the UK

Maya is nice.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 30/07/2024 21:20

They are quite different in style - Mary, Maria are very classic. Mika and Taya are very modern ( and not my cup of tea personally). Maya, Tess, Bella and Zoe somewhere in the middle.

My personal preference is for an elegant classic with a more modern/funky nn - so Teresa nn Tess or Maria nn May. Best of both worlds then.

Newsenmum · 30/07/2024 20:46

Taya or Tess is so lovely

Why "let him have his way"? You are the one physically bearing this child for nine months and going through giving birth, so your opinion has equal weight ( actually more weight).

Yes, both parents should agree on the name, but if anyone is going to give way a little it should be your husband, not you.

Out of your name list, I much prefer Mary to Maria. When I consider names, I think about what I'd be happy to have as my name, and Mary is the only one on the list. I think Taya, Mika and Maya are pretty awful.

HettyCletter · 30/07/2024 18:49

I like Tess the best (but not Taya). Second choice would be Zoe.

Duckies · 30/07/2024 17:55

Love Maria/Masha , but they are all nice

JimNast · 30/07/2024 10:58

Yes: Tess, Zoe, Mary, Maria, in that order
No: Maya, Mika, Taya, Bella

Firsttimebabymummy · 30/07/2024 10:32

I like Zoe best, followed by Tess

MagicianMoth · 30/07/2024 10:28

I voted Maria but not Mary

Moreteaandchocolate · 30/07/2024 10:27

I voted for Zoe as it’s a lovely simple classic, that’s currently quite underused. My order of preference with your names is

  • Zoe
  • Maya
  • Tess
  • Bella (much prefer as short for Isabella / Annabel / Mabel)
  • Maria
  • Mika
  • Taya
  • Mary

They are all good names but I tried to imagine which names would fit in best among my children’s peers (I’ve got primary and secondary age girls) and also which I’d be most happy to be called.

Nicebloomers · 30/07/2024 10:09

I voted Tess.

shoopshoopdedoo · 30/07/2024 09:54

Only like Mary and Zoe. Voted option one but not keen on Maria
