Ole or Olaf would be the Danish versions of Olafur

Eben is first name of 3 males in Denmark.
Fjord to 79 males in Denmark.

Esben
Rune
Eske
Torben
Bjørn/Bjarne
Klaus/Claus
are common boys names in Denmark.

Children are given quite modern international names in Denmark these years. See the pictures over the most popular names in the last countings.

Frederik
Christian
Rasmus
Carl
Storm
Jakob/Jacob
Mikkel
Magnus
Aksel
Thor
are seen among our Danish friends' boys thes years. They are all common Danish boys names.

Edited

Assuming Harry Potter is still a thing-and it shows no signs of not being, Fenrir would be a bad idea!

Ah! Thanks for this! Not kept up with my Potter lore!

@MumChp I just went Scandinavian as OP did say that/Danish. I'm assuming she's not too strict on it being 100% Danish as she has Artemis, which is Greek (and generally female), and Eben which is Hebrew on there too.

I've always looked outside the top 1000 for names for my babies, so I'd be happy with the less common options.

MumChp · 22/07/2024 20:14

Lidlisthebusiness · 22/07/2024 20:08

One of my sons has the middle name Torben, he was born during a huge storm so it fit perfectly!

Rafe has always been a favourite of mine, but my husband vetoed it each time.

Others I like from your list are Fenris (would Fenrir be too much?) and Rune.

What about:
Stellan
Torsten
Gunnar
Finn
Brage
Ari

Eben is Hebrew I think.

Stellan, Ari and Brage wouldn't be common in Denmark.
Finn, Gunnar, Torsten would be considered oldfashion but nothing wrong with that (but not given to many babies in 2024).

I appreciate it's not a Scandi name, but if you love it, then why not choose it?

Olafur is Scandi. But very specifically Icelandic, so it seems an odd thing to do when it's about Danish heritage.

It feels a bit to me like saying you want a Scots name, and then plumping for something really Irish.

Thanks for this, that's really helpful!
Surprised about Eben - I thought it was relatively common.
Could you perhaps mention a few Danish boys names you've come across? Thanks! :-)

Swedish friend's new grandson is called Viggo - I love the name.

Viggo is super cool, not sure it works for us though, kind of clashes with our surname 😭
