Did you/Would you let siblings pick the name?

My dd (3) has been insistent that this bump is called Jack from day 1! At first I dismissed it, but the more I think about it, I think it would be nice to include it somewhere, perhaps as a middle name. Is this weird?! I'mnot sure how I'd feel if I had been saddled with a name because my brothers picked it

When I was around 36 weeks, DS was adamant that DD would be called Lesley. He was absolutely distraught when I told him that she wouldn't be (Me: DS, why do you want to call her Lesley? DS: Because that's her name...).

Almost I considered putting it in as a middle name so that DS would feel involved... then I remembered that his previous naming ideas had been Mummy, Cow, Ladder and Chair, and reckoned he would get over it (he did).

DS is determined that the bump's middle name is Nut. So no, I probably wouldn't let them choose

my DD2 was named by her big sister.

when I was pregnant, DD1 was bought some dolls for a xmas pressie........both of which had holly-print dresses on. dolls were then named holly and polly (DD1 was then very into rhyming words) and she then went on to call my bump 'holly-bump' and the first thing she said when DD2 was born was .....'oooh, it's a holly-baby'.

name stuck (thankfully we loved the name anyway and it suited her), and it is now a lovely story we tell.

thankfully, DD1 and DD2 love them name and story too..

I know a family that let the older child choose the new baby's name. Baby is called Maisy Dora - wonder what influence that then?

But Jack is a much more longstanding name.

Have read whole thread and am still ROFLing at misdee's baby-to-be Lemon Sponge. Will add that to my list for DC3 (has the advantage of being unisex).

My answer to original qu is "no" as DS1 currently wants to give DC3 (if a boy) the same name he has himself...

no ds would have been jesus chico or evan if xp's dd and her sisters had chose. Yes i know evan isnt to bad but with the same /same sounding surname it is

DD1 found out new baby was on the way at Christmas, so wanted to call him Jesus.

And some fell on stony ground ...

One of my friends when I was little was called Louise, and that was picked by her siblings - from Louise the Lamb (sister of Larry the Lamb, from Toytown or somewhere?)

I think if it's not an entirely outrageous name - like Batman or something - it is a nice way of connecting

Ha, My mum let my brothers pick my little brothers name. Peter, after the Peter and Jane books. Mother says yes but it also means "rock"! mmmmm

Not quite the same but when I was deciding whther to wait longer for my VBAC or go for a CS I gave DD the options, she said to wait, so I did.
(Though if she had said dont I may have ignored her )

DH and I were having a bit of a dilemma over DDs name. He liked one, I liked another, so we gave DS the casting vote. He wnet for DHs choice, but it's a lovely name so I didn't mind.......much. He felt very pleased to have been involved (he's 5)

fingers crossed DC3 will be another girl and I'll get the name by default

Well My elder ones named my latest!
It depends how old they are really.

My elder daughters want baby to be called Eloisa Jane if its a girl.
But thats too plain for me TBH.

Me, DH and DS1 all have J as middle initial, so I let DS1 pick a J middle name for DS2. He picked Jacob, which I quite like and it goes well with DS2 1st name and our surname. Mind you, if it had been Jonksquash or something, Im quite sure I would of put my foot down. I think its a nice way to include older siblings.............as long as you like it yourself

DD1 wanted DD2 to be called Polly and was massively upset that we didn't go along with it. I think it would have been a lovley way to make her feel involved/important if only it had been a name I liked

When my little sis was born, I desperately wanted her to be called lucy; my parents insisted on giving her a very unusual name (feckin hippies), but with Lucy as her middle name. My sis, after years of everyone mispronouncing her name/giving her a hard time about it, changed her name to Lucy

Not unless DH and I really liked the name as well. If DS1 had had his own way DS2 would've been called Boris Ecuador. Fortunately, he didn't didn't kick up too much fuss when we chose different names.

DGD aged 8 wanted to call her baby sister "AGGY" after Aggy and Maggy the cleaners, this came about after watching dancing on ice and Aggy was in the show, thank god we talked her out of it
