Daisy - too juvenile?

Helenthemelonfelon · 16/07/2024 16:39

Expecting a baby girl and really struggling to pick a name, so far all we have agreed on is Daisy but we are worried that it's too juvenile for an adult. So what do you think is Daisy too juvenile?

Full name would be Daisy Alexandra Forbes

Thoughts?

Daisy isn't my personal style (same as Poppy etc)

But I do like Daisy Alexandra and she can choose do go by Alexandra when she's older if she doesn't like Daisy anymore

I say that as my friend goes by Liz and I knew her for years as Liz/Lizzie before finding out her first name is actually Millie Elizabeth!

LlynTegid · 16/07/2024 17:11

It's a bit last decade I feel.

loropianalover · 16/07/2024 17:10

I think Daisy is lovely and feminine.

Naomi and Elena are beautiful too.

JohnofWessex · 16/07/2024 17:06

A colleague has a daughter Daisy, now 13(?)

We have joked about her joining the SAS and some shocked neer do well realising that the person about to something very very nasty to him is a petite woman called Daisy

Daisy62 · 16/07/2024 17:01

Daisy Alexandra is lovely - why not just go with it? You can't tell what she'll think it about when she's grown up - people change/modify their names all the time, she'll do what she wants with it.

Moreteaandchocolate · 16/07/2024 17:01

Daisy is a gorgeous name! And she’ll be growing up alongside a whole swathe of Poppy’s, Maisies, Millie’s, Mollys, Elsie’s, Evie’s etc.. so these names will seem totally grown up and normal for this generation 😊

UnsleepingBeauty · 16/07/2024 17:00

I don't see it as childish I just think of Marc Jacob perfume or cows. I think the baby's generation will not be as stuck up as we are with names so if you like it go for it even if just as a nickname or extra middle name.

Through the French version.

Had to look this up as was still so confused...turns out there is a type of flower/daisy called the Marguerite Daisy. Very convoluted really! But have learned something new today 😆

Alwaystired2023 · 16/07/2024 16:58

I feel like you and DH are on the same wavelength - there must be a similar name for both of you

Lea
Arabella
Evangeline (Gigi)
Mae

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/07/2024 16:58

If you like Daisy, go with Daisy - lovely name. (Jeez, don’t go near Margaret - why would anyone use a longer name, when you intend to always use another version? Makes no sense to me - plus its an ugly name)..

How about Elodie? Part way between your Emily and your DH's Rosie? I know two little girls with that name (sometimes called Ellie for short for one of the two) and it's a lovely annual but not too unusual name.

DH wouldn't like this as he has an aunt Melody and does like names ending in "die"!

The connection is from the Marguerite flower

I worked with a Daisy and she was hugely embarrassed by her name as it wasn't an adult name in her view.

PinkForgetMeNot · 16/07/2024 16:55

I like Daisy

Helenthemelonfelon · 16/07/2024 16:54

Thanks but I really don't like Margaret at all.

Other names I like are
Emily
Eliza
Naomi

DH likes
Holly
Rosie
Elena

We don't like any of each others though.

How on earth did Daisy become a diminutive of Margaret???

Through the French version.

Daisy sounds like a bit of a soft name but I have know three grown up Daisys and all of them have been absolutely amazing.

Alwaystired2023 · 16/07/2024 16:51

Oh google says it's Margaret - love that, she can be Daisy, Maggie and then Margaret if needed

Daisy62 · 16/07/2024 16:51

Daisy is a diminutive of Margaret - you could use Margaret as the birth cert name, then as an adult, if she no longer wants to be called Daisy she could use Margaret or other diminutives like Meg, Megan, Gretchen, Maggie, Peggy etc. Daisy is my personal fave tho, for children and adults!

Alwaystired2023 · 16/07/2024 16:50

Love the name but is there another name that it can be the short form for so that she has options?

PuttingDownRoots · 16/07/2024 16:49

Traditionally it was short for Margaret

Crispynoodle · 16/07/2024 16:49

It's a great name!

Rosa8115 · 16/07/2024 16:48

On an aside our Daisy loves her name but she does say most other daisys she meets are pets!
