Daisy - too juvenile?

Helenthemelonfelon · 16/07/2024 16:39

Expecting a baby girl and really struggling to pick a name, so far all we have agreed on is Daisy but we are worried that it's too juvenile for an adult. So what do you think is Daisy too juvenile?

Full name would be Daisy Alexandra Forbes

Thoughts?

I like it. I have a now-grown-up cousin Daisy who's technically Margaret but uses Daisy for all but very official purposes - it doesn't seem to have caused her a problem. I'd put it more in a category with Lily, Holly, and Ivy than with full-on nicknamey names like Rosie, Posy, Evie, etc. (which I wouldn't use as stand-alones). I like the choice of Alexandra as a nickname with Daisy. Love Naomi, though!

KirstenBlest · 17/07/2024 11:12

What sort of name would inspire confidence in you, @Moveoverdarlin ?

Would you like to submit a list of acceptable names for GPs? Would they all need to be WASP names?

SilverSimca · 17/07/2024 10:03

If I booked an appointment with a doctor or lawyer and saw their name was Daisy I don’t know if I would be filled with confidence.

That is insane. Do you really feel that the random letters a parent chose to name their child has an effect on their ability/intelligence? Like it or don't like it (I actually do like it) but if you really think Daisy Cooper is a less able politician because of her name, that is madness

PrincessHoneysuckle · 17/07/2024 10:00

Not the question but I prefer Iris for a flower name

PurpleChrayn · 17/07/2024 09:54

Daisy is a silly, flippant name.

Doodlebugbop · 16/07/2024 23:46

There are a few Daisies at our primary school, it's a pretty name and does suit children but I agree that it doesn't sound right for adults.
All the ones I know get called Daze or Daisy Doo or crazy Daisy.

RoyKentwhistle · 16/07/2024 23:44

I love it.

NotABeliever · 16/07/2024 23:22

I love Daisy! Such a sweet name and lovely sounding. Go for it!

TheaBrandt · 16/07/2024 23:22

No one’s saying women with that name can’t achieve and are actually juvenile though are they? Just that it’s quite a young sounding cutesy name for me it conjures up an image of a curly haired toddler in a summer dress not an adult woman. You obviously are fine with it - it’s subjective and op did ask.

DiscoBeat · 16/07/2024 23:13

I think it's lovely but it doesn't have much scope for being a strong name if she turns out to be a very strong character.

Tenaciousbeyondallthings · 16/07/2024 23:09

Our Daisy is an international manager of about 1200 people across 2 continents for a large international corporate..

I like to see what would happen if someone called her 'Juvenile' ...

coxesorangepippin · 16/07/2024 23:05

Not keen at all

TheaBrandt · 16/07/2024 23:03

Personally can't stand the cutesy baby style names as I find them cringe making on adult women. Daisy is in that bracket along with names like Honey and Poppy. Molly is on the edge of OK for adults. Its very subjective and lots of people like them but I dont!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/07/2024 23:03

Personally -yes, I do think it sounds quite childish. A bit like Poppy. For some reason, I don’t feel this way about other floral names like Lily or Rose - maybe it’s because I’ve haven’t personally met any older Daisy’s, only young ones.

BUT I find quite a few of the current Top 100 “ie/y” ending names sound quite childish, so it’s clearly a me problem- they must be popular for a reason, so I can’t see that Daisy would cause your daughter any issues.

Moveoverdarlin · 16/07/2024 23:02

If I booked an appointment with a doctor or lawyer and saw their name was Daisy I don’t know if I would be filled with confidence. It’s adorable for a little girl toddling around but doesn’t sound very…grown up.

VirginiaGirl · 16/07/2024 23:00

Daisy is a beautiful name.

sunshine2go · 16/07/2024 22:59

I would defo go with Alexandra first.. but I did see your reasoning.

Daisy is very pet name to me. But if you like it, go with it!

ClaireRed · 16/07/2024 22:50

I actually love Daisy, didn't use it as DH didn't like it. We went with Rose, Rosie for short

KirstenBlest · 16/07/2024 20:22

Daisy Cooper - Wikipedia

I don't see the name as juvenile because it was a friend's great aunt's name when I was little. It didn't seem any more childish than Jenny, George or Charlie.

Margaret isn't hideous, fricking or otherwise.

Beth216 · 16/07/2024 20:06

Helenthemelonfelon · 16/07/2024 16:54

Thanks but I really don't like Margaret at all.

Other names I like are
Emily
Eliza
Naomi

DH likes
Holly
Rosie
Elena

We don't like any of each others though.

Margaret is fricking hideous, who would name their child that? Nothing like the French version which sounds much classier.

You say you love Daisy but you seem pretty unsure about it so I wouldn't go for it on that basis. I think El beginning names and names ending in 'a' with Alexandra as a middle name don't really work so well. Holly, Rosie and Naomi work best from the list IMO.

As you both seem to like names ending with an 'ee' sound - Daisy, Naomi, Rosie, Holly, Emily - and they run well with Alexandra, what about looking at other names that end with that sound? Sadie, Callie, Ruby, Elsie, Lucie, Darcy, Dolcie etc?

CurlewKate · 16/07/2024 19:52

I've finally managed to stop being surprised that Faisy Cooper is a real, genuine, excellent grown up member of Parliament.....

MumonabikeE5 · 16/07/2024 19:51

The Daisy I work with is very elegant, she has a long neck and excellent poise. So her name doesn’t feel twee, as she is a long way from being twee.
but I can see that it could be.

S0livagant · 16/07/2024 19:44

There's just not much to it. Daisies are nice enough, but they're hardly the most exciting flowers, and they're totally ubiquitous.

There are many kinds of daisies in many colours. I love the pink and white ones that grow from cracks and in walls, almost from nothing. They are the ones that remind me of my GGM.

S0livagant · 16/07/2024 19:39

It suited my GGM as long as she lived (over 90).

BeaLola · 16/07/2024 19:37

I don't love it whereas I love Alexandra, we are all different which is a good thing

What about

Beatrice /Beatrix
Cecelia
Harriet
Nina
Verity
Margot
Louisa
Lois
Violet
Sasha
