Tory-Girl Aesthetic Names

Tongue in cheek title as my colleague joked I ĺiked "Tory" names. Anyway, we're down to the last three - I have a strong favourite, DH has a strong favourite and the third is more of a compromise. So interesting to see what the consensus here is! If it helps, (potential) DD most likely won't be going to state in case there are any comments about potential bullying...

I voted Hentrietta.
Also like Harriet.

I know of one each.

I don't like Cressida.. Gwen is OK too but prefer Henrietta

Just realised they all end in 'a'

Be prepared for people to let you know bullying can be much worse in private school than state!

Oh God, yeah I know. I meant bullying over a frilly name. Georgiana got knocked out for us around top 10 in our baby name deathmatches I think...

I like the Gwendolen spelling - in addition to being the original Welsh spelling (I think?) it also seems the most intuitive to pronounce. I like Cressida too. Not really fan of -etta or -ette names, which feel maybe a little bit old fashioned at the moment, but Henrietta does have some nice short forms.

I would not have thought of your choices as "Tory" necessarily - of the two Cressidas I know IRL, one (generally known as Cress) had socialist activist parents and the other came from a noticeably apolitical family.

The other end of the spectrum are the rather safe and sound names: Anne, Jane, Elizabeth, Mary

I think Allegra mentioned above is the Toriest of Tory-Girl names.

Cecilia
Gillian
Claire
Penelope
Helena
Beatrix
Arabella
Natasha

This just makes me think of the scene in Chalet Girl where they show each girl and the names end in '-ella' 😂

Henrietta is a beautiful name as is Gwendoline/Gwendolyn, I personally prefer the latter spelling.
Cressida I'm not a fan of at all
