Looking for name inspiration for similar names to Felix, Willoughby, Monty (Montague), Ambrose. Partner likes Ambrose but it reminds me of Ambrosier custard.

OK, sorry about getting the wrong end of the stick.

Not sure how you equate Fabian Society principles with Nazism. I don't know all the ins and outs of Quintus Fabius Maximus though. The name meaning seems to be about beans. Anyway I'm sure OP will research meanings .

I don’t equate them.

I was just saying that when names have strong political associations some people prefer to steer clear ( I suppose they don’t know what political leanings the child will grow up to have). If you look up the Fabian Society you will see it has a political association. It was meant to be helpful to op, not contentious. I quite like the name in terms of the way it sounds. But for the above reasons the other aspects are something I would want to be aware of when choosing it.

Arlo! Not Argos

I was wondering who on earth would call their child Argos!

No one is doing that! Pp referenced the Fabian Society with socialism not national socialism

It also has quite heavy socialist associations as well as associations with a military strategy involving wearing down your opponent by attrition ( after Quintus Fabius Maximus Verrucosus) which is slightly less cute 🤨. Doesn’t rule it out, but worth being aware of because political and military associations hang heavily and tend to send names out of favour ( like Adolf!)

Fabian has a meaning though. You’d need to check how you feel about it.

Are you royalty? Sorry but all of those names are hugely pretentious and scream 'I'm a posh boy'.

I mean Willoughby ffs, it sounds like a butler in an Agatha Christie novel.

This!

MistyHazelFox · 14/07/2024 10:14

I think Gargamel isn't just character in Smurfs, I think there might be Bible or angel reference, I think gargamel is angel in tradition of Catholic Church.

TheCultureHusks · 14/07/2024 09:09

Yes, Muttley’s a good shout against Willoughby.

FinalCeleryScheme · 14/07/2024 08:53

Gargamel? That’s a character from the Smurfs isn’t it?

You’re joking surely? You might as well suggest Muttley or Skeletor.

TheCultureHusks · 14/07/2024 08:39

They all just seem really different vibes to be honest! Felix is perfectly normal, middle-class if you have to pigeonhole. Know loads. Willoughby is just totally weird. Ambrose is very old-fashioned. Monty is wannabe alternative.

if you like Felix, how about Leo?
If Willoughby, how about Gargamel?
If Ambrose, how about Wulfric?
If Monty, how about Iggy?

NCfor24 · 14/07/2024 08:32

OP I like your names and Felix and Monty are both in my kids class at school (age 11) and are lovely boys, and the names make me think of them. I know of an Ambrose and he's early 20s now, down to earth and not from a hoity toity family. Whatever you name your kid the name becomes associated with them and many less favourable connotations are lost anyway.
I don't really see similarities between the names you've chosen but I suggest
Edmund
Louis
Simeon
Alfred

William is worse than Wilford. It literally contains Willi Blush

PrincessOfPreschool · 14/07/2024 04:09

Wilford 🤣

Got to be the next 'penis name': "Have you washed your bum and Wilford?"

Toilet is called John in some part of English speaking countries
tbh, I would rather pick Wilford than John.
