Longer name for Lovey

We LOVE the name Lovey for a little girl, but obviously for more professional circumstances/later life it wouldn't be appropriate. Any ideas for what Lovey could be a nickname for?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Another option could be using a name that mean love from another language... like Amora etc...

Babies called Cariad in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com)
I'm surprised it's that popular, it's blimmin' awful.

Any links or fondness to Wales? I'm Welsh and know a few people with the name Cariad which is the Welsh word for love.

Cariad as a name sounds daft to those who speak or understand Welsh.

It's what you call your nearest and dearest, like 'dear', 'darling', 'sweetheart'.

It's also the word for boyfriend/girlfriend.

I love the Welsh! Smile They call everyone 'love.' They even call other men 'love!' So endearing. I don't live in Wales, but I do live close to the border, and travel into Wales fairly regularly. So I meet/know quite a number of Welsh people.

Exactly.

Give the person a dignified name.

Nickname it within the family/its childhood as you see fit.

Despite what you may think, Loveday is a name, once popular in the south-west. Whether you like it or not is a different matter.

Lovey? Loveday?! Fucking hell, this is a person not a pet bird.

Please don't

It's a generic term of endearment

This. My mum used to call me Lovey because it was a general local term of affection.

Valentina, however, is a gorgeous name. Unusual, and very grown up and expensive sounding!

Starseeking · 01/07/2024 23:36

I was going to suggest Lavinia, then saw you already have Larissa.

Clover would be a not so obvious long name; bit out there, though easy enough to shorten to Lovey.

Larissa and Clover goes well together.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/07/2024 23:00

Havent read the whole thread but guessing you’ve considered that Lovey (like Pip, Bean, Buddy, Sonny, Missy etc) could be a nickname for anything but want something more closely related. I’d suggest the genuine but rare Cornish beauty Loveday as a middle name and then call her Lovey as her nn. Alexandra Loveday, Cecilia Loveday, Helena Loveday? All work well with Larissa imo.

Or you could give her an L first name like her sister and then use a middle name starting with V - so initial LV equals Lovey.

So your children will be Lala and Lovey?
😵‍💫 rather you than me….

also lovey conjures Christopher biggins and the-a-tre types for me… I don’t lovey it (pardon the pun)

that said Larissa is a really nice name.

Lala and Lovey. Perhaps she gives birth to TeleTubbies.

I was reminded of this thread today as I passed a guy unloading his van outside the local Indian restaurant. I paused as he was unloading across the pavement to let him finish and he said to me "sorry lovey"...

LuckySantangelo35 · 01/07/2024 20:48

the name Anna is really nice op, what about that?

yikesanotherbooboo · 01/07/2024 20:41

In a similar , in my mind, vein how about Dot(ty) or Doll (y) for Dora or Dorothy?

PurpleReindeer2 · 01/07/2024 20:34

Your daughter deserves a name that will be suitable as a child and as an adult and that won't lead to being bullied. Call her your pet name at home but don't call her it on her birth certificate.

There’s a character in the TV show You called Love. I thought it weird at first but I guess it’s no different to Faith, Hope, Peace, Patience type names?

The Christian virtue of love is more formally called charity, so that's the name that goes alongside the other virtue names. It wouldn't be my number one baby name choice, but I guess it might be ok as a real name for which Lovey could be the nickname.

Although I'm still not sure why parents would choose the nickname before the child is born, don't they usually just grow organically from family dynamics? That's how I got Squiblet and Mini-Fink and Wren. They're certainly not names we planned!

Like the Teletubby?

Exactly my first thought… I think OP should consider Tinky Winky or Dipsy to stick with the theme
