Any ideas for a Turkish / British baby girl name? Ones considered so far:

  1. Safiyyah
  2. Suraya
  3. Inaya

@AprilAutumn , the Amayas and Anayas are primary school age or younger. I'm in the SE and in a multicultural neighbourhood. One of the neighbours and a colleague have one so I hear the names a lot and notice it more if I hear it when out and about.

Both names are on a steep upward curve on Darkgreener, and could have different spellings, and they fit in with names like Maya which are popular. It might not be overpopular where you are.

The question about 'why Turkish?' was because it could be because you were British Turkish, mixed British and Turkish, other reason for wanting a Turkish name.

the two Turkish girls I know are Melis and Alayna (not sure of spelling but this is how it’s pronounced!)

I used to know a Suraya and always thought it sounded pretty.

Hello, it’s because we are a British / Turkish couple. You are correct thinking they are also Islamic names. I’m so intrigued that you hear lots of people called Anaya/Amaya because I have never met one. I’m in South England and Wales a lot, so maybe depends on where live in UK? It’s quite tricky finding a name everyone can pronounce 😅

They look like Islamic names not specifically Turkish names.
I only know Anaya as a name, not Inaya. Anaya and Amaya seem to be every other girl's name where I live, and don't sound that great when you hear them a lot.

Safiyyah will blend into all the Sophias and Sofias.

Is there any reason why you want a British/Turkish name?

StamppotAndGravy · 01/07/2024 14:12

Safiyyah is going to spend her whole life telling people it's not Sofia. The others are less likely to get misheard and mangled.

Lila, Darya, Alara, Amina should all get spelt right too
