Partner being difficult about boy names

RedRobyn2021 · 28/06/2024 12:45

Has anyone else found this?

The only names he likes are

Teddy (Edward, Ted) - I feel this is very popular and not for me tbh
Woody - a no from me
Zack

I love the names

Milo
Otis/Otto
Cosmo

Any suggestions please? Have really struggled with boys names, more so than will our daughter

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
17caterpillars1mouse · 28/06/2024 16:35

Your names are faddy and will date. I've met a few of each of them. We'll only 1 Cosmo but it feels very dog name to me and a bit weird

Agree about Teddy but Ted and Edward are nice names.

Woody was a nickname for an election when I was growing up, that or Buzz's friend.

Zachary is lovely, Zachary is nice too I just prefer a longer full name.

There must be names between the two that you both like, not quite so faddy but not Teddy

Aquamarine1029 · 28/06/2024 16:06

There are countless boy's names. Go back to the drawing board.

Els1e · 28/06/2024 16:03

Sorry OP but I prefer your partner’s choices. Especially Edward/Ted/Eddie. Milo is okay but really not keen on Otis or Cosmo. Could be biased though as the only Otis and Cosmo I knew had addiction issues. It’s not going to easy finding the compromise between traditional names and the more twee names. Zac is good. What about Seth?

I only like Zac (this spelling, not Zack or Zach) from his list and Cosmo from yours.

I like Edward but not Ted/Teddy
Woody - Toy Story, slang for erection
Milo - milk drink
Otis - lifts, seems a wet name
Otto - not keen, but it's not awful

Katiesaidthat · 28/06/2024 15:36

Sorry, your names are really twee, not very masculine. Woody is also horrible. Zach is the best of the lot.

baggagecabbage · 28/06/2024 15:34

I'm with your hubby I'm afraid. My son is called Zach and my dog is called Cosmo!

There's a reason Edward and all its nick names are popular, it's a classic you cannot go wrong with.

I'd imagine a man would rather he was called Edward, Ed, Ted, than Cosmo.

Are they cats?

Love Otis

muddyford · 28/06/2024 15:26

Cosmo is OK. But is that it? All the lovely names in the language and you have Woody, Milo and Otto, which sound like a gang of cockerpoos!

PardonMee · 28/06/2024 15:26

Mac Mackenzie

Cryingout1994 · 28/06/2024 15:19

Cosmo is giving fairly odd parents 🧚🏼

if you know what i mean

Namechanger385u4p · 28/06/2024 15:17

Oh i LOVE the name Cosmo, would call another son that! Magnus is a similar vibe, or Conrad?

Elijah is a middle point of both your lists.

MistyHazelFox · 28/06/2024 15:13

I don't really like your list, but I also don't like his.
What about Magnus
Roland
Bernard
Barnaby
Lucian
Rafferty
Peter
Piers
Frederick
Jeremy
Finn
Rufus
Elias
Kieran

Firsttimebabymummy · 28/06/2024 15:04

Really like Zach from the lists but I do much prefer his list, sorry! Also like Edward but nn Eddie not Teddy.

Wrongsideofpennines · 28/06/2024 14:00

We found boy's names hard. It took us a week to decide. I'm glad we waited until he was here though because the name I was so convinced I wanted just didn't suit him in the end, much to my husband's relief. It's OK to not have a name for them straight away. Friends of friends took the whole 6 weeks to decide.

We did have a (quite a long) short list though. Which we have done every time, and then chosen something from off the list anyway 🙄

Cryingout1994 · 28/06/2024 13:52

My son's dad and I couldn't agree on a name for our son. It was getting ridiculous everything I said he said no, then I found the top 1000 list printed it out highlighted every one I liked and added any I could think of that weren't on it and read them outloud to him 1 by 1 and I got "no, no, no, ew no"

finally I got an "ohh I actually quite like that" I was so shocked because it was a total wild card, but anyway we have a 9 year old son called Rex

try it it might work 😄

TomatoSandwiches · 28/06/2024 13:48

If he's your partner and not husband perhaps you can give him a bit more leeway with the first name if you give baby your last name?

TomatoSandwiches · 28/06/2024 13:47

I think his names are boring and overused.

I think you are equally allowed to veto names until you find one you can both compromise on, it's the only fair way really.
