What are your thoughts on the name Coral?

Would it be too old fashioned? Too "under the sea"?

My son's have top 10 biblical names so this would be a bit out there and not really fit with their names?

The other name I've been thinking about is Grace. But is Grace too boring? Had it's day?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

OP, it's pretty. You should use it if you love it. But I like a previous suggestion of biblical names. Rebekah is a fabulous name.

Coral isn’t a name but Cora is beautiful.

My neighbour (elderly lady) is called Coral, so it most definitely is a name!

Josh Widecombe's dd is called Pearl. With considering?

not even going to start on the name Pearl 😂

No, Coral is not the best colour name.
I think it is too dated.

Other ideas ..
Grace
Alice
Scarlet
Sophie
Amber
Clare
Chloe
Alison
Abbie
Amy
Trinity
Eloise

Coral isn’t a name but Cora is beautiful.

Agree. Love the Downton vibes!

AllTipAndNoIceberg · 25/06/2024 08:03

Surprised by some responses here; of course Coral is a name. It’s been in use since Victorian times, like Pearl and Ruby and Beryl and so on.

I love Coral and think it’s underappreciated. Honestly, I wouldn’t expect many people to assume it was meant to be Carol/e, which is a perfectly OK name but deeply out of favour as a baby name for the present generation. Coral is so pretty in itself and makes me think of gorgeous undersea photographs.

As for the bookies thing, again that seems like a reach. Nobody is going to meet a girl or woman with a nature/gem name and find themselves unable to override the fleeting association with high street shop signage.

LetItGoHome · 25/06/2024 07:57

I really like Coral. Pretty, unusual but not unheard of. Ticks all the boxes 😃
I also like Coralie. Also Pearl for the underwater theme 🤗

why, I actually appreciate Coral for what it is, not some made up fantasy that it is a pretty rock. it is awesome. But it is invertebrates, and don't call your child after invertebrates unless you like invertebrates. Your child is not going to like being called after invertebrates if they live in a family which gets annoyed at bees and spiders and things

Well in that case we can do away with flower names can’t we? Goodbye Rose, Poppy, Lily. And Grace isn’t a name - it’s an adjective for smoothness of movement. You’re being v silly.

Coralie is a traditional French name, there’s also Coraline?

ToffeenutLatte · 25/06/2024 07:49

Yep. That's just the vibe it gives me.

Strangely, I get a far less pleasant one from you.

really? If coral is on the beach, it is dead. It is NOT happy

I think Coral is gorgeous. It invokes beachy/sunny/happy vibes for me.

I know two. One is in her 70s the other is late 20s. The name suits both equally so I think it ages with its bearer well.
As PPs have suggested, if you're a little hesitant then Cora is also lovely.

Grace is nice, but a bit boring for my personal taste.

I like Coral. I like Cora and Cara too.

depends if you actually like coral or not - you are naming your child after a colony of invertebrates. Ok if you like invertebrates

PurpleReindeer2 · 25/06/2024 07:06

Coral no. Grace lovely.

A lovely name. Your child's happiness matters more than the name anyhow.

CatMumSlave · 25/06/2024 07:02

@Mairzydotes

Do people called Grace get called Disgrace? I've never heard that one.

Duh · 25/06/2024 06:58

Coral isn’t a name but Cora is beautiful.

Mairzydotes · 25/06/2024 06:55

I think it's lovely. It's a little bit different, but not weird .

Grace is extremely common where I live , especially as a middle name. What about Coral Grace?

Also , there is the chance of people teasing and calling her Disgrace.

Moreteaandchocolate · 25/06/2024 06:46

It’s pretty - I probably wouldn’t be brave enough to use it - but it definitely feels like a name that could make a comeback. I agree it could get mistaken for Carol a lot. Do you like
Cora
Coralie
Coraline

Lifeinlists · 24/06/2024 23:29

The sister of a school friend was / is called Coral. She did get Carol a lot but Carol isn't a popular name now so I think it's a lot less likely to be a problem.

I think it's a nice name, quite unusual without being out there. She's not a boy, so I don't see that she needs to 'match' her brothers' names.

dimsumfatsum · 24/06/2024 23:25

No. No and no.

46mumof6 · 24/06/2024 23:25

Coral is a beautiful name, I like Grace but I doubt she would be the only Grace at school as it is popular.

If your looking for a biblical name what about Rebekah( the biblical spelling) Ruth, I also love Mary and think it is time for a come back

baconandsausagesandwich · 24/06/2024 23:21

No.
