It’s late, DH won’t stop going on about it so I’m keen to hear opinions.
As mentioned in last post DH and I are expecting our first baby girl. We had somewhat settled on Camille as the first name.
In some browsing we both loved the name
Apolline. DH is French and I am Norwegian but we agreed a name that works best in French makes more sense for us.
DH hasn’t stopped mentioning Apolline since. Now I love the name I really do, maybe more than Camille, however I have a few concerns

  1. Will British people pronounce it as “Appo-lyn or appalling” ?
  2. Nicknames - Polly? Appo/Appi?
  3. Is it hard to wear? Especially with our surname being Montaigne I’d worry it sounds a little pretentious and could be hard to pull off?

So thoughts on Apolline?

I don't think it sounds pretentious! Combined with your surname it's a fantastic name. I'd read it as "Appo-leen", and would probably go with a nickname of Appy. If you both love it, go for it. Congratulations Flowers

I would read it as Appol-line.
Doesn’t sound pretentious with your surname, just obviously not English.

If our husband loves it, and you do too, then that’s the name you should go for :)

I would have thought it was pronounced Appol-een but some may read it as Appol-eenie kind of like Scallopine?

MockneyReject · 09/06/2024 03:09

Well, it's better then just 'Apple'.
If I loved it, I'd name her Appolline, but introduce her as Polly. Or Lina. Just not Appol/Apple.

Really not a fan, sounds overly pretentious and like a medication. Sorry!!
