Names like Betty?

Have made 2 threads in a row, sorry about that, but at least they are mostly different topics!

I really want to use the name Betty but I can't, so I was wondering if there are any names with the same feel? Not necessarily nicknamey names, but just the feel of them. Can't use any Rose names, and I like Beth but not as much as Betty, there's just something so sweet about it.

Also no longer forms of Betty that I can shorten, because I just can't call her Betty at all (even as a diminutive) TIA!

If you like Peggy you could name her Megan (which would also give you Meg). My DNiece is Megan and we call her Peggy.

How about a name that shortens to Etty?

Eg

Violet nn Etty
Juliet nn Etty

Or

Henrietta nn Hetty or Etta?

Do you like

Katherine nn Kitty
Elspeth nn Elsie
Isabella or Annabella nn Bella
Matilda nn Tilly
Dorelia / Isadora nn Dory
Georgina nn Ginny
Caroline nn Callie or Carrie

CuriousGeorgie3 · 03/06/2024 05:06

Polly is rather lovely and has a similar vibe, IMO.

In its own right, rather than just as a shortener.

Goes perfectly:
Rosalie, Cecelia and Polly

or

Rosie, CeCe and Polly

Polly Marjorie?

I love Dorothea, also Constance / Connie, Penelope / Penny.
I'm not keen on Marjorie but I like Rory and love the family connection.
My first thought was Imogen / Immy.
Eloise / Elsie is great with your ( lovely) girls names.

HoHoHoliday · 03/06/2024 03:34

Kitty / Katherine
Nelly / Eleanor or Helen
Milly / Amelia or Millicent
Florrie / Florence
Gracie / Grace
Jessie / Jessica
Elsie / Elizabeth
Connie / Constance
Evie / Evelyn
Maggie / Margaret
Joey / Josephine
Lulu / Louise

I like Tessa from Theresa, but not so much Theresa for some reason. Dora and Teddie are both cute for Theodora, and I think they work for PP suggestion of Dorothy/Dorothea as well!

Love Sadie, didn't know it came from Sarah! Love Bella as well, and Pearl is cute from Marjorie maybe (by meaning)

I've put together a little list, let me know your thoughts if you have any:

Josephine nn Josie
Dorothea nn Dotty / Thea / Dory
Aurora nn Rory
Eloise nn Elsie
Marjorie nn Jorie / Rory

I think Josephine is likely not a real option because while I love Josie, I don't love Josephine and I am definitely going to use her full name as well so I need to love it! Same for Aurora, I don't think it goes with Rosalie and Cecilia. My top 3 atm are Dorothea nn Dotty, Eloise nn Elsie, and Marjorie nn Rory.

Also, just FYI I don't care too much if she gets other nicknames from school or whatnot, the diminutives are mostly just for me to call her by along with her whole name.
