Corr-ra
Or
Like Coral without the L?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SonicTheHodgeheg · 01/06/2024 13:48

Rhymes with Dora

Whats the different between coral without the L and Corra?

Is is core- ah vs car-ah?!

Genuinely can't get corra to sound differently to Cora

I think maybe the OP meant the 'corra' version to rhyme with Dora (although that would be a bit odd, because normally doubling the consonant makes the vowel shorter, not longer).

To rhyme with Dora, Flora and Nora.
I wasn't aware there was a different pronunciation?

Exactly. I know Coras in several countries and have never heard anyone pronouncing it otherwise...?

Core-ah, to rhyme with flora and Dora as others have said. Never heard it said another way. Have two young DDs so have met a few.

You can pronounce Laura as L-oww-rah though

I have never heard that in my 31 years of being called Laura!

Aura and Dora don't rhyme for me

This is the problem with typing pronunciations! Different accents … unless i’ve been pronouncing Dora incorrectly

Grin I love pronunciation threads. Everyone has a different idea about how to represent phonetic sounds in writing and doesn't understand other people's version (often complicated by regional accent variations)!

I'd pronounce it to rhyme with Flora, Dora, Explorer (cue Rhotic speakers disputing the last one). I've never heard it pronounced to rhyme with 'horror'.

Thulpelly · 01/06/2024 13:29

Short ‘cor’ sound

Thulpelly · 01/06/2024 13:28

Cora like Coraline/Coronation

Thulpelly · 01/06/2024 13:27

CORRA (as in lorra-love 😂), not CAWra (to rhyme with aura/dora the explorer)

is how the Cora I know pronounces it.

Exactly this
Cora Dora Nora Flora

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 01/06/2024 13:26

If it was pronounced Corr-a would it not be spelled like that? Corra? It's always pronounced Core-a as far as I know.

jumpforjoyitsaboy · 31/05/2024 20:34

Corr-ra
Or
Like Coral without the L?

I'd pronounce both of your examples the same way

Cheeesus · 01/06/2024 13:25

Also to rhyme with Flora. I’m not sure what The difference is between your two options?

dementedpixie · 01/06/2024 13:24

Cora = core-a
Corra = corr-a

Holidaaaaay · 01/06/2024 13:22
