Harley - A boy or girls name?

Nikki112 · 22/05/2024 08:28

Hi Everyone!

I am expecting my 3rd child in October and it's going to be a boy :)

We are thinking the name HARLEY.

I was just wondering if people initially think of the name as being a boy or a girls name?

Thanks for any answers :)

@peanutbuttertoasty has a good point.

Not really sure why you have been so sarky @Nikki112
Isn't the point of asking strangers about a name in advance, to find out what people really think ?

If you genuinely aren't bothered that so many think it is a really poor choice, then go ahead and name your child what you like, but, having asked, you have to accept that this is what a lot of people are thinking.

You really want jokes about people riding Harley? Don’t do it to your kid. It’s a bikes name not a human’s

Blarn · 24/05/2024 22:28

I went to school with a boy called Harley and know a boy with that name now. I think it is really nice.

hattie43 · 24/05/2024 22:25

It's a surname to me not a first name

Maybe she has a sibling called Kwolitie

Their surname begins with M 😂

@TribeofFfive , is her surname Street?

Would’ve been clever if so, wouldn’t it! I wonder if that’s why they spelt it IE instead 😂

I think I'd assume Harley was a girl. Probably with a brother called Maverick or Jayden and a sister called Coco or Nevaeh. And the parents breed dogs.

There is a Harlie (female) in my daughters dance class. She goes to a private school and her parents are both in medicine. Dads a surgeon.

My sisters childhood school bully was a William. He was vile and almost led her to suicide. She’s still suffering the consequences now, in her 30s.

Don’t judge kids by their names.

RuthW · 24/05/2024 21:42

Harley is definitely a girl's name

Catlover1705 · 24/05/2024 21:33

Martin Kemp's daughter is named Harley and she's in her 20's. I think it was popular in the 90's for girls. I know a male Harley aged 9.

JamSandle · 24/05/2024 21:14

I think it works for a boy or a girl. I've always loved the name.

Clevs · 24/05/2024 21:09

I know one of each but associate it with a boy more than a girl.

HAF1119 · 23/05/2024 16:44

I really like the name

And for a boy! I'm not even questioning my taste seeing all the replies on this.. different horses (or dogs) different courses and all that!

caringcarer · 23/05/2024 16:32

Harley Quinn so it's a girl for me.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 23/05/2024 16:13

I've only ever met male ones, and I think one of the obvious associations (bikes) makes it likely that it will always be acceptable for a boy. If anyone is using it for girls I see that as a bit quirky and "out there," not the new normal.

FlatWhite2 · 23/05/2024 15:46

I wouldn’t let it being a unisex name put you off, I don’t think it’s too feminine for a boy, it suits either. Go for it if you love it.. no name is going to get 100% positive feedback on here 😂

BananaLambo · 23/05/2024 08:54

The only Harley I know is Harley Quinn from Batman and Suicide Squad, so to me, it’s a girl’s name and she’s a bit of a scamp!

Bumblebee907 · 23/05/2024 08:49

Just a chavs name really.

strugglingmomx · 23/05/2024 08:14

It's unisex but I'd probably associate it more with a boy

KirstenBlest · 23/05/2024 08:06

Much prefer Harvey

familyissues12345 · 23/05/2024 07:16

Ah I like it, and as an ex Nursery Nurse I usually have quite an opinion on names Grin

I've known quite a few Harley/Harleighs over the years, mostly boys

Kalevala · 23/05/2024 05:37

I do know of one boy, no girls. The boy was from a rough family.

LizziesTwin · 23/05/2024 05:26

I’ve only ever met dogs named Harley. Usually big dogs.
