Hi,
What are people's thoughts on the name Sadie?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I think it sounds really pretty, it has a nice ring to it.
Sadie Green was one of the main characters in the novel Tomorrow, Tomorrow and Tomorrow, she was an original, creative, nerdy, sweet girl.

Sounds like an old woman's name.. like you can imagine a white haired frail Sadie sitting having her porridge in the nursing home.. that's the vibe it gives me
Sorry but don't like it

eileandubh · 19/05/2024 22:06

I really like it - I too had a great auntie Sadie, who was named after another older relative herself. It has a pretty, pastel 1930s vibe for me.

JanglingJack · 19/05/2024 22:03

My first thought was that it's very 80s.

Second thought was bitchy, but I went to school with one.

WhereAreWeNow · 19/05/2024 22:00

I like it. I had a great aunt Sadie.

35andThriving · 19/05/2024 21:58

saveforthat, what I am saying is true. It does have the words "sad" and "die" in it, and that puts me off. The op was asking for my thoughts. I didn't give my opinion uninvited.

Nice

whyhavetheygotsomany · 19/05/2024 21:22

Nice for a German shepherd

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 19/05/2024 21:22

Nice I think she sounds like a nice pretty girls girl

Marketplacevirgin · 19/05/2024 21:13

I love it. Would have used it if I'd had another daughter.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 19/05/2024 21:10

Sadie was an American girl in St Clare's, so it must have been considered typically American at that time. I know one in her twenties. It's ok, nothing to dislike.

Gcsunnyside23 · 19/05/2024 20:41

I really like it but think it's the kind of name that depends on your accent. I live in N.I and it would sound a bit harsh in my accent and possibly not that nice but way nicer in an English accent if that makes sense

MotherofPearl · 19/05/2024 20:40

@Hermione7

It's a song from the 60s.

I think it's really nice actually. Haven't heard it much lately in small kids so it would be sufficiently unique. It's kind of got a boho, slightly 70s hippy vibes to it. You could imagine the person becoming something creative.

I don’t love nicknames as given names, I’d prefer the full version.

To me it does sound like sadist in my accent. Not too bothered by sad or die. More bothered about there being absolutely no options for shortening or changing it at all, and how popular it is currently.

DisforDarkChocolate · 19/05/2024 20:23

I like it but where I live loads of people with automatically think 'Sadie the Bra Lady'

FloofyBear · 19/05/2024 20:22

I love it

Eggmoobean · 19/05/2024 20:22

Love it

Rainbowbrite83 · 19/05/2024 20:21

I know a Saydi..like the name spelt this way.

biggangster · 19/05/2024 20:20

I just think of Sadie the bra lady, up north we have a local celebrity with a big bra shop.

GreenMarigold · 19/05/2024 20:19

I don’t hate it but it sounds a bit American to me. I know one, aged around 10, who is lovely but it’s just not my cup of tea.

platypusweek · 19/05/2024 20:17

Love it! One of my favourites. Reminds me of that scene in pretty woman (I think that was it?) about Sadie the name for a married lady

Hermione7 · 19/05/2024 20:16

CoffeeAndPeanuts · 19/05/2024 18:57

Lovely for a cleaning lady!

What?🤷‍♀️

jjpolly90 · 19/05/2024 20:13

I have a Sadie! She's almost 11. Absolutely love her name and you don't hear it very often.

MissingMoominMamma · 19/05/2024 19:41

I had a dog named Sadie. She was lovely ☺️
