Hi,
What are people's thoughts on the name Sadie?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I know one Sadie and she's lovely so I'm biased to love it

Duckies · 20/05/2024 11:19

It sounds like a 'cool girl' name a bit.

I think it originally is a pet name for Sarah? But then so is Sally, so...

Unfortunately I can't not mentally sing Sexy Sadie by the Beatles when I see this name but doubt that will be a big thing given the song is 60 years old. (ETA I'd never do it in person!)

My impressions but IMO none of these are good reasons to be put off an otherwise nice name!

Sadie is fine.
I always sing - Sadie, the cleaning lady ..
It's not one of my favourites due to personal taste.
I prefer ... Sally, Adrienne, Jade

Tuwhituwhoo · 20/05/2024 10:11

Eww

TM1979 · 20/05/2024 09:56

I like it. I know 2 Sadie’s, age 13 & 8. Really suits them.

I think the same but I think it’s because the only Sadie I’ve known (in my year at secondary school) was very much like this.

I wonder if we all knew the same Sadie!

I would use Sarah, nn Sadie, if I wanted a Sadie.

Berlinlover · 20/05/2024 09:53

My friend’s seventeen year old daughter is called Sadie. I love it.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/05/2024 09:44

To me it evokes the old song 'I Love Mary' by Paddy Roberts... (1910-1975)

I love Mary
Shy, little, blue-eyed Mary
Warm and glowing as an Autumn sky
Sweet, sweet Mary
Never a bit contrary
And I'll love her 'til the day I die
But I'm going out with a blousy old trout called Sadie
She's right on the ball but she ain't what you call a lady
...

Icehockeyflowers · 20/05/2024 00:24

I prefer the name Sarah. and think Sadie is ok. I don't like either name enough to use it.

To me Sadie is a bit old fashioned. I know two - one is in her 50s and was named after her grandmother. The other is twelve and is a mean girl with a very unlikeable mother so that influences my opinion of the name.

ETA I tend to lump the name Sadie with the name Sophie and there are so many Sophie's around, it doesn't make Sadie feel uncommon to me.

favouriteyellowsocks · 20/05/2024 00:19

Really love it. I have a 4 week old niece called Sadie - the name came completely out of the blue but it's refreshing and we (as a family) have only had positive comments

maudelovesharold · 20/05/2024 00:17

Sadie was my Mum’s name. It evokes all her beauty and warmth, so of course I love it!

RoobarbAndMustard · 20/05/2024 00:14

At one job I had there was a very bossy 'Sadie' who was a bit of a bully.
Her nickname was 'Sadist'

35andThriving · 19/05/2024 18:53

The fact that it has the words "Sad" and "die* in it puts me off. Such a negative name.

Exactly what I was going to put.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 20/05/2024 00:03

Retro and interesting

MrsBobtonTrent · 20/05/2024 00:02

Sadie the sadist. No no.

AlwaysTheRenegade · 19/05/2024 23:25

I love it, was on my girl list.

ByUmberCrow · 19/05/2024 23:06

It seems to be a popular dog name near me…

I meant to say I love it sorry 🙈🙈

😂

Ketzele · 19/05/2024 22:20

One of my favourites.

SkaneTos · 19/05/2024 22:19

@35andThriving
The only other place I have heard the connection between the name "Sadie" and the word "die" is in the tv drama "Grey's Anatomy".

Copperoliverbear · 19/05/2024 22:17

Copperoliverbear · 19/05/2024 22:16

I love you. X

Moonshine5 · 19/05/2024 22:13

Love it

SkaneTos · 19/05/2024 22:13

I love the name Sadie!
I did not know until I read this thread that it is/used to be short for the name Sarah.

I do think a little bit about the song, but that's not a bad thing.

35andThriving · 19/05/2024 21:58

saveforthat, what I am saying is true. It does have the words "sad" and "die" in it, and that puts me off. The op was asking for my thoughts. I didn't give my opinion uninvited.

This also resonates with the name Killian.. all I can hear is Kill Ian and I can't unhear it
