A brother for Amos

Please help. Baby boy due soon and we can't agree on names! I like names that are uncommon but not completely unusual / unheard of. Would like the name to have a strong meaning and sound nice when said with his brothers' name. We are finding lots of boys' names sound too harsh beside it!!

Our current list that we don't really love is:
Boaz
Solomon (too long?)
Simeon (would he be constantly called Simon?)
Shepherd
Jethro
Ozzie / Ozzy (too different?)
Abel
Elias
Gideon
Asa
Albert (nn Bertie)

Would be so grateful for your thoughts and suggestions!!

Yes, farmers who were in their 70’s in the 1980’s. Very popular names for flat cap wearing, lovely hard working men who held their trousers up with baler twine instead of belts. Proper salt of the earth true gentlemen.

That's really lovely to visualise our little man being like them!

Enoch makes me think of Enoch Powell, unfortunately.

WindowViper · 15/05/2024 20:54

Not Enoch - Powell.

I immediately thought Joseph, which might be too common for you. But I love it shortened to Seph / Zeph which makes it more unusual.

Hubby likes Enoch and Abraham. What do we think?

I have a wonderful friend named Enoch, so I associate the name with loveliness! Goes well with Amos and different enough to not be matchy-matchy.

Abraham is cool but a bit too matchy with Amos, I think.

FayCarew · 15/05/2024 20:40

Boaz - yes
Solomon - yes
Simeon - sounds like Simian
Shepherd - no
Jethro - not keen
Ozzie / Ozzy - Am-os and Oz too similar
Abel - yes but too matchy matchy
Elias - not keen
Gideon - not keen
Asa - yes but too matchy matchy
Albert (nn Bertie) - not keen

Suggestions: Joel, Joab, Gabriel, Caleb, Seth, Reuben

Thank you. This is my problem, everything I love is too similiar
