It was a horrible thread, I remember it.
Name threads are a funny one because actually the op is always wanting (well, mostly wanting; sometimes they huff off and say that's the name they have chosen and everyone else's ideas are foul) to get a gauge of how the name is perceived, which is so much better done anonymously because friends normally say "oh how lovely." So I think honesty is justified.
But some of the posts in this thread were hitting much wider than the name itself. Uneducated mother, for instance. Some mums are not well educated, and that's just rude.
