Expecting a baby in August. We really want a name that never dates, is beautiful and classic. We can’t use Elizabeth, Clara or Isabelle. Our list so far is

Alice
Anna
Emily/Emma
Eve
Georgia
Kate
Lucy
Maria/Mary

We also like these names but worry they are a bit long or frilly
Annabelle
Beatrice
Felicity
Florence
Lucinda
Madeleine
Verity

I think Maria is my favourite but Emily and Alice are up there. DH loves Verity and Felicity but agrees the are a little frilly.

Opinions or other ideas would be appreciated!

I don’t consider Eve or Georgia classic names. I love Alice, Lucy and Emma from your list.

I also love Charlotte. Your second list are a bit frilly but pretty although not all I would consider classic either.

Moreteaandchocolate · 07/05/2024 18:39

We have very similar taste! You’ve listed my two daughters names :) I also prefer shorter, simpler names to anything long and frilly. I love Alice, Anna, Emma / Emily, Eve, Georgia and Lucy.

Not all quite so classic or simple, but have you you considered -

Amy
Rosa
Harriet
Imogen
Leah
Hannah
Louisa
Eloise
Rebecca
Sophie
Abigail
Jessica
Hazel
Beth
Charlotte
Helena
Caroline
Ella
Laura

I don't think that any are frilly other than Annabelle and Isabelle. Annabel and Isabel are fine.

AdaColeman · 07/05/2024 16:57

My favourites from your list are...
Alice
Felicity
Lucinda

Eve is part of that large group of Evie Ava names that were hugely popular a few years ago, so there will be a lot of them about. Georgia was extremely popular about twenty years ago, though I'm not sure it is a classic name, very pretty though.

All from Shakespeare:

Miranda
Marina
Helena
Rosalind
Celia
Diana
Cassandra
Imogen
Silvia/Sylvia
Valeria
Julia

In the same vein: Clarissa, Rosamund, Cecilia/Cecily, Caroline, Honor, Alexandra, Leonora.......I rather like simple names such as Jane and Maud, also.

My sister is an Emma, she likes it alot. Nothing rhymes with it so no dodgy primary school nicknames. It's sort of a strong, dependable, classic name that never goes out of fashion.
