Hallie

What are your thoughts on Hallie?
It's very different to my other top name which is currently Athena.
But in honour of my Dad there was a boys name he loved that is Scandinavian Norse with a very similar meaning and I'm tied between using that and a name personal to me for the middle name. But thought it would honour him - he disliked his name so don't really want to use that and think he'd approve more of this.
Hallie is Scandinavian Norse and a very similar meaning to the boys name (they are completely different names), but I wondered if this would be a nice way to honour name Dad if baby is a girl.
What do you think?
Just to add one son has middle name Harry. So not sure if too close to use?

This link shows its rise in popularity.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 05/05/2024 20:36

II like it and much nicer than Athena which sounds both harsh and pretentious to me.

febbabies2023 · 05/05/2024 20:35

I mean I love it but I did call my daughter Hallie so I'm probably bias!
Having said that it has become so popular recently and when I named my daughter I didn't know or hear anyone else call their child the same name. Now I hear it a fair bit!
So if you dont care about popularity then go for it!
I think it's beautiful

I prefer the spelling Halley, and like Hadley.

Halley is a surname I think as in Halley's comet.

Hotpinkangel19 · 05/05/2024 20:26

Beautiful

35andThriving · 05/05/2024 20:25

Makes Me think of The Parent Trap remake and The Radfords.

KirstenBlest · 05/05/2024 18:59

@SunnyFog , Nameberry probably used the meaning of the surname Halley.

SunnyFog · 05/05/2024 18:45

https://www.nordicnames.de/wiki/Halle_m

it is Scandi but the meaning is a little random - flat stone.
I don't get how Nameberry got "dweller in the meadow by the manor". i s that the meaning you were going for OP?
What is the boy's name and the meaning?

I really like it!

The only thing is that it looks and sounds like a shortened version of something else - Harriet? - but that's not necessarily a problem.

PeonyAndBlushSuede · 04/05/2024 22:07

Love Hallie. Gorgeous name.

I know 2 people who have spelt their daughters names both Halle and Hali. Same pronunciation.

FlatWhite2 · 04/05/2024 21:45

I definitely don’t think Hallie is too close to Henry to use, so don’t worry about that. I personally much prefer Athena though & im not sure choosing a name with a similar meaning is the best way to honour a relative? But if it means something to you then just ignore everyone else’s opinion. I wonder is there a name that sounds like the one your dad liked or a female version of it that might be more of an obvious connection? Lots of people don’t look at name meanings and wouldn’t put two and two together.. if that’s important to you. I think there would be nicer names out there than Hallie but it’s not bad and if you love it then go for it

GoodVibesHere · 04/05/2024 17:35

I like it, reminds me of Big Bang Theory which I love

KirstenBlest · 04/05/2024 17:34

@titanicbelfast , but Nameberry is known for being unreliable wheras Wiki isn't foolproof.

Meaning, origin and history of the name Hallie - Behind the Name This site is usually reliable

titanicbelfast · 04/05/2024 17:11

@KirstenBlest Wikipedia is information collated from public contribution so isn't reliable either

Downthemedow · 04/05/2024 16:55

I think it’s pretty. Isn’t it the name of Bernadette’s child in the Big Bang Theory? So maybe quite popular in the US.

KirstenBlest · 04/05/2024 16:50

Nameberry isn't a reliable site when it comes to name meanings.
Hallie (given name) - Wikipedia has a different meaning for it

I'm not keen on Hallie but I love Harriet. It doesn't matter if one child is something like George Harry and the other is Harriet Rose or Hallie Grace (substitute the actual middle name).

peaceinourtime · 04/05/2024 16:25

Of the two Hallie for sure

CavalierApproach · 04/05/2024 12:18

Is Halley with an -ey even an established first name though?

I like Hallie, and with that spelling it has been around for a good while, if not very common. Like, Hallie Flanagan was a well-known early 20c US theatre person I remember studying at uni. And currently I can think of the author Hallie Rubenhold. But I’ve never come across a “Halley” so I would read that as a pointlessly yoo-nique spelling of a perfectly good name.

muddyford · 04/05/2024 12:04

I prefer the spelling Halley, and like Hadley.

FlyingPizzaMonkey · 04/05/2024 11:29

I love it.

KnickerlessParsons · 04/05/2024 09:54

Nannyfannybanny · 04/05/2024 00:04

Don't like it. Surely with 2 Ls it would rhyme with valley.

So would I. But I've read so many name pronunciation threads I can never be sure!

sheoaouhra · 04/05/2024 06:06

A lovely name, and I would think she had been named after the comet. I think it is great

Moreteaandchocolate · 04/05/2024 06:00

I think it’s a pretty name. It’s shot up in popularity in recent years, so it sounds quite trendy to me and it’s hard to know how well it will date. I don’t associate it as Scandinavian, more with Halle Berry. I still like it though, just a few things you might (or might not) want to consider.

CatchTheBalloon · 04/05/2024 00:20

I always think of Halitosis when I hear this name sorry

Dangerousfemale · 04/05/2024 00:18

In fact, look who wrote the article: Haley 😂😂
