Boys names that are out of the ordinary, or related to 'nature'

We don't know if we are having a girl or a boy and if we have a boy I have no idea what we are going to call him!

Help!

Our first daughter is called Daisy Harriet, and I've decided that if we have a girl the next one will be called Clover (possibly second name, Amelie) - corny I know, but it's because Daisy and Clover grow together. (she says a bit sheepishly).

I love names rooted in nature, but boys names are very hard to come across. I like the name Cyrus (no nature link there at all by the way), but apart from that I'm drawing a blank. I briefly considered the name Leif (kind of norweigian name I think, but it's bordering on sounding too hippy). I don't mind the name Seth, but it reminds me of that old bloke with a flat cap who used to be on Emmerdale.

These are the other names I've considered, but they do have to go with a very boring English surname, so some of them would sound ridiculous.

Lorne
Cassius
Cyrus
Juno
Isaac (meaning laughter)
Oren (tree)
Roden (from the valley of the reeds)
Varden (meaning green)
Merle (meaning blackbird)

Does anyone have any bright ideas?

edam · 01/04/2008 23:39

It's the combination of Daisy and Clover that might provoke a reaction, rather than either name individually. I just have forebodings of lots of cow jokes.

How about Bryn (for a boy)? Welsh for 'hill'.

amytheearwaxbanisher · 01/04/2008 23:38

bradon=keeper of water and salmon

Regarding the potential duo Daisy and Clover.

You have of course considered the potential 'cow' gags haven't you.

What about Grass, Digby.....

BigBadMouse · 01/04/2008 23:31

Of course, Peter also means 'rock', so if you wanted to keep the 'rock' theme you could go for that as a middle name. (BTW, I am not taking the piss... really like both names!)

There's also Rocco, of course, but that might be a rock too far!

vInTaGeVioLeT · 01/04/2008 23:27

rowan
robin
jay

Ellbell · 01/04/2008 23:23

Logan does have a natural link of sorts. It is used to describe a rock which (wait for it...) rocks. Like this Logan Rock near Penzance.

cadelaide · 01/04/2008 23:22

oh yes ellbell, crows are fab, had a pet one years ago.

Another vote for Silas, and how about Sylvanus? (My Grandfather's name, incidentally).

To all you sniggerers, it's a long 'a' actually.

Ellbell · 01/04/2008 23:19

Rowan (I know a zillion others have said it, but I love the name so just giving it another little plug!)
Corbin (= crow, so not desperately attractive image, but I do like the name; I'd expect a man with that name to be tall, dark, handsome and a bit swoon-y)

mopsa · 01/04/2008 23:19

Silas - 'of the forest'.

cadelaide · 01/04/2008 23:18

Barley

I like that but dp wouldn't countenance it. He said it's a girl's name.

Come to think of it, what a great Labrador name!
