Boys names that are out of the ordinary, or related to 'nature'

We don't know if we are having a girl or a boy and if we have a boy I have no idea what we are going to call him!

Help!

Our first daughter is called Daisy Harriet, and I've decided that if we have a girl the next one will be called Clover (possibly second name, Amelie) - corny I know, but it's because Daisy and Clover grow together. (she says a bit sheepishly).

I love names rooted in nature, but boys names are very hard to come across. I like the name Cyrus (no nature link there at all by the way), but apart from that I'm drawing a blank. I briefly considered the name Leif (kind of norweigian name I think, but it's bordering on sounding too hippy). I don't mind the name Seth, but it reminds me of that old bloke with a flat cap who used to be on Emmerdale.

These are the other names I've considered, but they do have to go with a very boring English surname, so some of them would sound ridiculous.

Lorne
Cassius
Cyrus
Juno
Isaac (meaning laughter)
Oren (tree)
Roden (from the valley of the reeds)
Varden (meaning green)
Merle (meaning blackbird)

Does anyone have any bright ideas?

chaoskay · 26/04/2008 15:34

Lovely name, it just sounds a little bit like 'Darn' ( as in a version of Damn!.

Oh dear, am I a tree hugger?!

Gunnerbean · 26/04/2008 00:01

I once knew a tree hugger and her son was called "Tarn" which apparently means mountain lake or pool. Very in touch with nature I thought.

chaoskay · 21/04/2008 19:08

I was tempted by Mushroom, but decided against it {wink}

mason's a great name.

it means tradesperson.

it's very strong.

it's also a brand of canning jar in N. America.

Dragonbutter · 21/04/2008 14:11

I said you should call him Sol!
Congratulations.

expatinscotland · 21/04/2008 14:05

Oh, so you changed your mind about my mentioning Struan, then, makingdo.

Glad to hear it.

We'd chosen it as a boy's name back when I was pregnant with DD2.

chaoskay · 21/04/2008 14:04

Thanks for all your suggestions, my baby boy was eventually called Sol, after a week of deliberation. He's going to be our little ray of sunshine (I can hear you all vomiting in buckets from here...). He was born on 13th April and I've got my home birth story on a different thread on here, feel free to have a nosey - not for the squeamish!

I couldn't call him Jasper as our cat shares the same name, lol!

I'd still love to give him the middle name 'Danger' but I'm the only person who thinks that this would be a good idea in the entire family (it would be great for him when he's a teenager and trying to pull girls). Well done you MrsJohnCusack for actually managing it!

We've had a lot of jokes about Sol's middle name, ie 'Itude' 'Phadene' 'Um' etc etc. It will probably take us another 9 months to come up with this I think!

there is a little boy in my family with the middle name Danger, believe it or not....

lonestar · 20/04/2008 08:48

DS is Rowan so of course I love it.

belgo · 08/04/2008 08:14

Douglas

newshmoo · 08/04/2008 08:07

What about Linden or Avery...Dale?

HereComeTheGirls · 08/04/2008 07:28

Juno is 100% a girl's name...she was Jupiter's wife! Merle can be either (Merle Haggard is a man!)
