Baby name shortlist...

Baby no3 is due shortly and we're really struggling to agree on a name. We used our names we'd always had picked out with DD and DS. Opinions on the below and/or other similar suggestions welcome. We're quite short on boys names we both like 🫣

Boys:
Rowan
Rafe (DH not as keen)

Girls:
Thea
Neve
Eden (I'm not as keen as DH)
Ocie
Alessia

Rafe Neve Thea

wingsofabird · 10/05/2024 20:43

If popularity is a concern whatever then beware that Rowan is trendy and also super similar to fastest rising boy name Roman which is in top 20 and still rising @AllTheNaps

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 04/05/2024 22:22

Rowan and Alessia, although I do like nearly all your girl names. Ocie is the only one I don't like although not entirely sure how it is pronounced (is it said like The OC?).

danascully96 · 04/05/2024 22:12

I'm fond of Rowan + Eden!

I like Rafe and Neve

What about Finn or Evelyn

BingoMarieHeeler · 04/05/2024 21:54

Ocie as in The OC?

I like most of your names. Know squillions of Rowans if that bothers you!

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/05/2024 21:52

Boys:
Rowan - this was on our shortlist. Lovely name. I know 3, all boys (well one a man) - I know alot of people say its a girls name now, but that's not my experience

Rafe (DH not as keen) - I want to like it but I can't get past it autocorrecting to Rape. I know a Raffi which is similar.

I will also suggest Elias, Jude, Patrick and Tobias

Girls:
Thea - nice but in my area it gets pronounxed Fear. I like as a shortening for Dorothea

Neve - i like, but hate this spelling. Niamh is such a lovely spelling

Eden (I'm not as keen as DH) - it feels a bit faddy to me

Ocie - not a fan but will suggest Effie as a similar style name

Alessia - overly fussy, prefer the simplicity of Alyssa

Thanks all - appreciated!

To point out the obvious to those who think Alessia is an oddly spelt Alicia, they're two different names 😄

I was going to say this. It seems weird to me that people think Alessia and Alicia are the same name. I much prefer Alessia and think its pronunciation is more straightforward than Alicia, which can be pronounced in various ways.

My favourites, inspired from your list.
Rafael 10/10
Rohan or Rowan 10/10
Alessia - Allie, Essie 10/10
Ocie 9/10
Zena 10/10
Ziva 9/10
Oceane 8/10

Heatedblanky · 29/04/2024 00:01

Rowan and Alessia for me

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/04/2024 22:13

Yes, I think many will be aware that Alessia is very popular in Italy, OP. But though I personally think it’s beautiful ( as I mentioned) it was hardly used here in the UK till about a decade ago. Where as similar sounding Alicia has a long history of use, so you are going to get some people mistaking Alessia for it.Not saying not to use Alessia- just pointing out potential annoyance for your DD.

Whereas some girls names popular in Italy, but hardly used here - like Gaia, don’t have sound alikes to cause issues. Do you like Gaia? I also love Italian Livia but that has the same problem in the UK I think , getting confusion with similar sounding Olivia despite being different names.

NOAH

theduchessofspork · 28/04/2024 18:30

Rowan and Alicia (no need for the odd spelling)

Rafe is also nice

Thea I like, but there are so many Theos right now..

Niamh is alright (again no need for the odd spelling) - but it sounds so similar to Eve of which there are billions

Eden has gone a bit south so no

Ocie - what in the world is that??!

Gawain
Ronan
Corin
Jerome
Struan
Stellan
Toren
Laurence (Laurie)
Joss
Jesse

Oona
Adela
Enid
Olwen

I love Rowan - so gentle and lovely on a boy or girl. You might like classic Owen too as it sounds quite similar? Don’t hate Rafe but it’s nowhere near as nice as Rowan or Owen imo.

Eden is very pretty, although obviously it has religious imagery if that bothers you or not. Neve is gorgeous but will get misspelt a lot I think, as I lot of people even outside Ireland are familiar with the traditional Niamh. I prefer similar Eve for that reason.

Thea is nice enough, but not a particular fave. No idea about Ocie? Alessia is beautiful but again, I would worry about being misspelt a lot.

Rowan - like but Roman is very popular.
Rafe - it's OK but I'm not keen

Thea - Theo too popular. Not keen
Neve - Is it 'Nev' or 'Neev'? Niamh is much nicer
Eden - not keen
Ocie - ??? No
Alessia - Nice but might be Ali or Lessy, so not keen. Alice is nicer

Firsttimebabymummy · 28/04/2024 09:58

Love Rowan and Alessia!!

QueSyrahSyrah · 28/04/2024 09:57

I like Rowan, Thea and Neve if it's spelled Niamh. The Neve spelling makes me think the parents have only heard it and guessed the spelling, even if that's not the case.

lavenderjump · 28/04/2024 09:40

I like Rowan, Thea and Alessia

ickymatter · 28/04/2024 09:03

If you like Rowan probably shortened to Ro, would you like Joseph shortened to Joe?

Moreteaandchocolate · 28/04/2024 09:00

I like Rowan. Rafe is nice but prefer it as short for Rafferty.

I really like Thea. I also like Neve (poss spelling confusion with Niamh?). Eden is quite nice. Alessia is quite nice too, but prefer your shorter, simpler choices personally. Never heard of Ocie - sounds like it’s short for something?

Is Rafe a pronunciation of Ralph?

I like Thea and Alessia.
