How would you pronounce Leia? Running out of time to register

First time poster but would love your thoughts on how you would pronounce Leia?

We don’t have long left to register the birth and had decided on Leia long before I was pregnant, I’m now doubting it as worried that she will have a lifetime of people mis-spelling or saying her name wrong.. My intention would be Leia, pronounced as Laya.

The other option is Harper but aware this is very popular at the moment but still lovely and suits her too.

Thanks in advance

Is Laya like Maya Confused

Maya like my-ah or Maya like may-ah? Wink

Surprised by posters unfamiliar with Princess Leia, Star Wars is such a massive cultural phenomenon you'd think everyone would be vaguely familiar with her.

Amazed how many posters don’t seem to be familiar with Star Wars - I would have thought everyone would say Lay-a

I've never seen a Star Wars film so haven't heard the name pronounced.

We have a niece called Leia, her name is pronounced Lee-ah

singingthypraises · 23/04/2024 14:11

I'd pronounce it as Leia (Lay-ah) like in Star Wars as others have said. I know quite a few Leia's in their teens at the moment. It's a nice name. Harper is also lovely though so go with your heart on either name. Congratulations.

InTheRainOnATrain · 23/04/2024 14:09

Laya. Like Star Wars. I’d probably assume you’re a big fan.

This and I don't even like Star Wars.

I much prefer it to Harper. Congratulations!
