Awful name

whatsbestforme · 21/04/2024 22:34

✔️There's your middle name sorted.

Cariadxx · 21/04/2024 16:28

Awful and chavvy name round us

Thunderpunt · 21/04/2024 15:57

One of my sons favourite jokes aged 12;

What d'ya call a man with 50 rabbits up his bum?

PitterPatter3 · 21/04/2024 15:35

I only know one who would be in his 70s now. He was a crook and was given a prison sentence although I don’t think he ever served it. So I’m another with bad associations.

YukNo · 20/04/2024 23:47

My XH was called Warren. Awful man.

HarryBlackberry1 · 20/04/2024 23:45

I knew of an older Warren who wasn't nice to people. Everyone called him 'Warren aresehole'. Food for thought..

SomeBollocks · 20/04/2024 23:44

Just sat your post that it's your mum's maiden name. It's totally fine a surname or even middle name (my DD has a surname as a middle name also) but dear God not as a first name!

SomeBollocks · 20/04/2024 23:41

I can't believe I'm the first person to mention Buffy!

No. It's really bad.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/04/2024 23:05

Very retro sounding - it kind of reminds me of Glen in a similar style, old fashioned “nature” names that you rarely hear that much anymore. Dont love it, don’t hate it either- though I admit I’d be surprised to hear it on baby rather than an older man.

Still with your family links I think you should at least use it for a middle name, even if you find something you like better for the first. If you do use it as a first, I’d give him a more timeless/always popular middle name to fall back on - your Thomas, William, James, Edward, Alexander, Joseph, Daniel etc sort of name.

Runnerinthenight · 20/04/2024 22:55

Only if you preface it with Rabbit.

theduchessofspork · 20/04/2024 22:26

Ooh - no, it makes me think of rabbits - also it’s from the Darren and Gary era so very dated.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 20/04/2024 18:38

To me it's along the same lines as Darren.

It's dated and not very nice for a little baby.

There's so many nicer boys names 🤷‍♀️

Axx · 20/04/2024 17:50

Not for me.

resm · 20/04/2024 15:43

I think it’s fine! It would also be lovely as a middle name to honour your mum’s side if you’re unsure about it. But I’d love if there was a wee Warren in my son’s class - very refreshing to hear.

cheapskatemum · 20/04/2024 15:29

Pretty sure there was a Warren serving time in Slade prison in Porridge. They all called him Bunny.

BreatheAndFocus · 20/04/2024 14:49

I don’t like it- sorry. It sounds dated and all I can think of is the joke whose answer is “Warren”. Use it as a middle name if you really want to use it.

Duckies · 20/04/2024 14:40

I like it, reminds me of musician/composer Warren Ellis.

(And Beatty.)

HashB · 20/04/2024 09:50

Thanks all - seems fairly divisive!

It makes me think of Warren in Hollyoaks!
It's not terrible and it's certainly not common.

OnHerSolidFoundations · 20/04/2024 07:06

Also what if your child has a speech impediment like Jonathan Woss...
"Wowon" 😬

OnHerSolidFoundations · 20/04/2024 07:04

samestyle · 19/04/2024 13:10

Makes me think of Warren G mid 90s rapper, not a bad thing, I still sing along in car when I hear it. I don't think the name has been popular enough to sound that dated, use it if you like it. I think it's quite nice to reference your family name.

Me too
Or Warren St tube
Or rabbit warren

I don't like it sorry op

AppleCrumbleTea · 20/04/2024 06:28

Prefer Warwick or Rowan

ringoffiire · 20/04/2024 06:20

I've got some friends who called their son Warren, he's a toddler now. It suits him. When they first announced it I was a bit surprised as I hadn't heard it in years and didn't think it was all that nice, but it's grown on me. And he's adorable, of course :)

Hobbesmanc · 20/04/2024 06:16

There was a trend in the sixties and early seventies for taking surnames as first names for boys. Like Russel, Craig, Dean, Grant. Warren falls into that group. Seems a little dated.
