Middle name to go with Carmen?

che222 · 11/04/2024 22:20

Any suggestions for a short girls middle name to go with the name Carmen? Her surname is three syllables long which is why I don’t want a long middle name.

I have been thinking about the name Maeve? Not sure on pronunciation though as I feel like people would say it differently.

Not looking for opinions on the name Carmen so please kindly keep those to yourself 😇
Thank you

@asbestosmouth24 yes! Carmen Sandiego, I can't hear the name without singing the song!

Carmen Valentina?

I think you need a middle name that carries on the Spanish feel or it won’t flow. Plenty of them also work as English names.

Carmen Sofia
Carmen Maria
Carmen Isabella
Carmen Emilia
Carmen Olivia

I love the name carmen, it’s a strong name. But why the need to use a middle name? Usually a middle name is used for sentimental reasons. That’s what I was brought up to believe anyway.

I'm of a similar view @TiggerSnoozer . I find the 'Firstname Middlename' combinations like Lily Rose, Sophia Grace, Ellie May, Noah James type names too twee.

Middle names IMO is an opportunity to use a name you love but don't want to use as a first name. e.g. I like the name Anthony but not keen on Ant and Tony is probably not ready for a comeback yet. I like Elizabeth but not all the diminutives.

If there's a relative or loved one you'd like to honour, the middle name is ideal.

TiggerSnoozer · 13/04/2024 08:43

My point is that I wouldn't choose the name primarily because of how well it sounds next to the first name - for most people the two names are rarely said together.

TiggerSnoozer · 13/04/2024 07:56

To me the only point of middle names is to add in additional family connections / traditions, or offer an alternative name for the child to choose to use to go by. Otherwise, middle names are largely invisible.

Love, love, love the name Carmen.

I have an Iris Carmen- Carmen Inell was our other contender.

Carmen Camille Leanne

Very positive comments on your name choice on here, @che222 .

Whatisityoucantface · 13/04/2024 06:47

Great name choice!
If you’re due in next months you could go for:
Carmen April
Carmen May (Mae)
Carmen June
You could look at birthstones or flowers for that month also?
I think choosing a family name for middle name is always a good idea, or one that has meaning for you
Some simple Spanish names that go well:
Ana
Abril (April)
Rosa
Sofia
Lola
Maria
Gloria

Grendacious · 12/04/2024 18:37

Just not Eileen (unless you love the song!).

I think an M middle name gets stumbled over, although that's not the end of the world if you're dead set on Maeve (which is lovely).
