Amber?

Can't decide whether it's a bit dated? I think it sounds soft but not too 'girly'. I like nature names. I also think Hazel is beautiful, but it seems to be having a but of a moment, which puts me off slightly, plus I don't like the sound quite as much.

I know this post is a year old, but my name is Amber and I absolutely hate it. I just feel like

KirstenBlest · 11/05/2024 10:49

@chillichutneysarnie , it's from a road safety advice to drivers, probably from the late 1970s. It was someone driving through an amber light just before it turned red only and colliding with someone who had done the same (himself).

chillichutneysarnie · 11/05/2024 10:34

I've never even heard of amber gambler... Have I lived under a rock? Anyway, those who are saying use it if you like it are completely right of course, I just find naming children incredibly stressful and don't want to miss anything obvious

FiatEarth · 11/05/2024 10:33

Amber is a beautiful name.

KirstenBlest · 11/05/2024 10:21

Anya is pretty and similarish? They start with the same letter. Might just be me but I find Anya a bit wet-sounding. Amber makes me think of someone confident and creative.

78gingernuts · 11/05/2024 09:54

Does it really matter what others think of a name? I chose my daughter's names because I liked them.
Amber born 2012
Chloe born 2007
If you like it that's really all that matters.

CurrentHun · 11/05/2024 09:39

Amber Gambler! Reminds me of bad driving sorry. Anya is pretty and similarish?

Moreteaandchocolate · 11/05/2024 09:34

I really like Amber. It did peak in the 90’s but it was never overused enough to be completely linked to a particular era, and it’s been solidly in the top 100 without being overused for long enough that I think it’s more of a modern classic than a badly dated trend name.

KirstenBlest · 11/05/2024 09:23

@chillichutneysarnie , if you like the name use it. I don't think it was ever overused but Jade definitely had a moment in the 1990s, and the names have a similar sort of vibe.

KirstenBlest · 11/05/2024 09:16

I know 3. All born before 2000.

chillichutneysarnie · 11/05/2024 08:47

Just wanted to revive this thread. Lots of people say Amber is dated /90s but I grew up in the 90s and have literally never met one, ever.
So how many people did you know in the 90s with this name? Is it a regional thing? I grew up in the south east. Now live in the south west and really keen on this name for my daughter but the dated comments are bothering me 🤔

whiskeycats · 30/03/2024 12:55

Dislike Amber

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 26/03/2024 19:41

I like it. I don’t like Ember- sorry.

Amber's nice. Ember isn't. Hazel is ok.

PickledScrump · 25/03/2024 23:36

I do find Amber dated, however I absolutely love Ember.

Love it!! Unfortunately no more baby girls in my life so I had to use it on the dog🤣 I don’t think it’s dated at all - a gorgeous, strong name that’s not overused either

RuthW · 25/03/2024 21:49

Love it

ButtockUp · 25/03/2024 21:47

Nope.

milliemermaid · 25/03/2024 21:43

I have an Amber, she is 46 now.
I love it (obviously)

Babybreath · 25/03/2024 21:42

I've got an Amber , I read a book years ago called Forever Amber and decided to use it if I had a girl.

DramaAlpaca · 25/03/2024 21:42

To me Amber is dated. It has a very 90s feel, a bit like Chloe. My DC were born in the 90s and those names were popular then.

Hazel seems fresher, somehow. It seems to be getting popular so will date.

SageGreenShoes · 25/03/2024 21:40

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 25/03/2024 21:26

I don’t like either name I’m afraid. There are so many beautiful names for girls beginning with A and H. I think they are quite bland, boring and dated.

Like what? (Genuinely interested) 😊
