Nickname for a girl named Sunday

Hi all,

I’m pregnant with my second daughter, due in a few weeks weeks and we’ve decided to name her Sunday. I’d love some nickname ideas that aren’t “Sunny”.

Middle name will be Victoria just as an FYI.

Your right OP some responses are just plain nasty, and not the great wits they think they are. As others have said though it's a perfectly known name, and absolutely no different to sharing a name with a month, flower, car, plant, food, baby animal, God, toy, city etc etc. I also don't think it's particularly childish and would work fine on an adult. Posters pointing out the difference between name shortening and nickname are also being obnoxious, they are generally used the same way, families may use more obscure nicknames but your post is clear you are asking for a name that relates to Sunday and can be used by wider family and friends.

I think Daisy is the best option for a 'shortening' but I don't think you need one.

I don't think it's ridiculous or unsuitable for an adult. It's a perfectly nice name. Not everyone wants to name their dd Eva/Ava/Ella.

When I went to my first baby massage class a woman ran out dramatically as we were all introducing ourselves as her baby was the third Isobel in the room.

How do you know what will be ridiculous in 35 years? Not that long along people were naming tiny babies things like Gary, Norma and Fanny.

Why on earth would you do it?

Honestly I’m not desperate for a shortened version, I like it as it is. But as I mentioned on a previous post I have a DSIL who has form for dishing out nicknames. Obviously I can’t try and enforce the full name (and I will) but I just know she will shorten it anyway, so was hoping to have something I liked that I could at least try and steer her towards!

Just use the full name all the time. Despite what I said in my post, I actually know a Thomas who is always referred to as Thomas by his family, so that's how I think of him.

Hey OP it's OK to like a name lots of other people are not keen on (me too, I have seen lots of people say how much they hate the name we gave our DD; I still love it tho) but I guess you have to be prepared for comments like you're getting here. Tho as a PP says, in RL people may say them in their heads!

Can you articulate why you want a shorter version of the name? It's not so long and complex that you won't be able to write it or say it, so I would say just call her and refer to her as Sunday?

I think if you call your child Thomas or Frederick or Daniel then you have to expect Tom and Freddie and Dan - and be OK with that (from others I mean).

I don't think there is an obvious shortening to Sunday apart from Sunny or Sun (which is what I immediately thought of - then saw your are not keen). If you like the name why shorten it? My ds1 has a name no one ever shortens and that's all fine.

It's an awful name - the only person I've known to call their baby Sunday is Ferne McCann and she is awful and the child is a brat.

I love the name Sunday, and it's got so many really lovely associates, like Blondie's Sunday Girl, and Seurat's Sunday Afternoon on La Grande Jatte, and the Sondheim musical that painting inspired - and so much more.
