Nickname for a girl named Sunday

Hi all,

I’m pregnant with my second daughter, due in a few weeks weeks and we’ve decided to name her Sunday. I’d love some nickname ideas that aren’t “Sunny”.

Middle name will be Victoria just as an FYI.

Thanks all!

Sundays child is full of grace. Maybe Gracie or Grace.

VampireWeekday · 17/03/2024 22:04

Honestly I think people on this thread are really underestimating what counts as a normal name nowadays. We live in a very standard town and DS's classmates have named from many different cultures, some invented names, some noun names like Bear, Winter, Jupiter. It doesn't matter one jot to kids. DS thought it was funny when I told him there is a city called Florence ("like Florence at nursery!") But it was because the city is named after the friend in his mind - and he very quickly understood that some words have meanings and are names. Sunday wouldn't raise an eyebrow, kids don't care and they'll grow up into adults who also don't care.

I absolutely hate my name to the point I can't stand hearing people say it, and it's a perfectly normal recognisable name. It's no indication of what they'll like.

DeepBrickFox · 17/03/2024 22:02

Thanks to everyone who has chipped in with helpful suggestions/responses. That’s exactly what I was after and I appreciate those of you who have taken the time to give me ideas.

Honestly I’m slightly baffled by how much negativity this has caused. A lot of you having very bad days it would seem, I’m glad you’ve found a place to take your frustrations out. I’m sure you and your children all have perfect names and I’m thrilled for you.

Regardless I’ve had my fill of miserable spiteful comments so I’m logging out.

Nicknames usually just happen naturally. I knew an April who got nicknamed June and a Rainbow (hippy parents, all the kids had unusual names) who went by Bethan

In my school days Sunday would have gone by Monday or something else equally ridiculous. But if you love the name then who cares.

WaitingForSunnyDays · 17/03/2024 22:00

I quite like it. Maybe it could be "S" for shorthand and become Essie. But then I've got colleagues who regularly shorten names to just the first letter or syllable, so it seems normal to me!

VampireWeekday · 17/03/2024 21:56

I'd personally lengthen it to something cute because that's how nicknames go in our house - she's be Ice-cream Sundae (which would inevitably get shortened to ice!) or Sundance or something daft like that.

Alternative is to go for a real babyname as her shortened version when she's a baby, like Dayday or Yaya or some baby talk sound from the name.

Gettingonmygoat · 17/03/2024 21:36

And if she is born on a Friday? She will forever be asked if she was born on a Sunday or Conceived on a Sunday, please don't do that to her.

Asked what day she was conceived on? Are you feeling ok? Who goes round asking that?

Why would you be so cruel as to give your child such a ridiculous name?

LemonJuice92 · 17/03/2024 21:54

Suvi could work - a combination of both names.
Dede
Sisi (Ceecee)
Days/Dais

It is likely that people will automatically go to Sunny, which is also an adorable nickname! Or chances are you’ll just find something random that rhymes like SunBun 😂

Sorry if I am repeating what’s been said previously - but I got sick of reading the “Sunday Roast” and nasty comments that were posted repeatedly…

ru53 · 17/03/2024 21:53

I really like the name Sunday! I also like Monday as a name. Lots of people on here are weird about names that are even faintly unusual to them.

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/03/2024 21:53

My dd’s friend has an unusual name because of the meaning. Dd and her friends ‘shortened’ it to the first 3 letters spoken twice. In this case, SunSun. Otherwise Dede pronounced Dayday…

Onlinetherapist · 17/03/2024 21:47

@DeepBrickFox Some spiteful responses you have here! For what it’s worth I have a little girl named Tuesday! Most people love it! Or keep their opinions to themselves if they don’t want a piece of my mind!

‘Sundae’ is pretty too!

xx

Stickyricepudding · 17/03/2024 21:45

There are better options available and I think you're trying too hard to be edgy and cool.

TwentyFirstCenturyFox · 17/03/2024 21:43

It's a beautiful name.

I do no give a fuck who named their baby what. Someone being called it does not make it a name that is easy to wear in our culture. In another culture, it might be grand. If you are from another culture, might be grand. But for most people in the UK, Sunday will seem kind of silly.

Ok, no need to swear. Honestly what is wrong with some people!

Aydel · 17/03/2024 21:40

Neveron.

Snugglemonkey · 17/03/2024 21:39

LadyKenya · 17/03/2024 19:27

Yes, but judging from the silly comments, posters seem unaware of that fact. Nicole Kidman named her daughter Sunday Rose.

2024namechange · 17/03/2024 21:10

@LadyKenya which sounds like Sunday Roast!!

fwiw I don’t mind the name Sunday but it’s a bit ridiculous if she ends up being born on a Thursday.

No doubt some children will take the rise out of her name, because of the similar sounds. The OP has already stated what the middle name will be. I would not think it ridiculous about her being born on a Friday, or Tuesday etc..

Gettingonmygoat · 17/03/2024 21:36

Lots of really cute nicknames:
Dee
Dede
Sue
Suzi
Daisy
Cece
Sissy
Cizzy

Schoolrunmumbun · 17/03/2024 21:29

I came on to suggest Papers.
But ChilledOn wins

Winnipeggy · 17/03/2024 21:27

SuziQuinto · 17/03/2024 19:19

Please don't call her after a day of the week. They're not babies forever and they have to live with it.

Oh bore off, it's a perfectly nice name. By the time they're adults they will thankfully be in a generation where nobody judges names at all. Unlike on this website
