Nickname for a girl named Sunday

Hi all,

I’m pregnant with my second daughter, due in a few weeks weeks and we’ve decided to name her Sunday. I’d love some nickname ideas that aren’t “Sunny”.

Middle name will be Victoria just as an FYI.

Thanks all!

"...Monday, Happy Days!"
I'm not saying that to be mean, I just think that the name will create nicknames you can't control.
Honestly, why Sunday OP?

scrivette · 17/03/2024 19:44

Names tend to just evolve - DS' nickname is after his favourite food as a child. If I had a Sunday she would probably be Sunshine or Sunflower, I don't like to shorten names.

GiggleHoot · 17/03/2024 19:39

Roast?

DeepBrickFox · 17/03/2024 19:35

Wow, what a bunch of spiteful nasty comments from a group of women supposedly meant to be Mums. If you don’t like the name then fine, I wasn’t asking for opinions on it, move along and take your bad day out on someone else.
As for the true definition of a nickname, I didn’t realise that would cause such a problem, I’m looking for something it could be shortened to, if that’s not “officially” a nickname then I do apologise!

I like it. Though I think it will be shortened to Sun or Sunny

Sunday is an actual name. It's got Norse origins after the sun goddess, and also African influence too. I have met two central African men names Sunday... nn Sunny!

The Norse goddess is Sunna or Sol. I think Sunna would be a nice name.

MiltonNorthern · 17/03/2024 19:34

Why would you call her Sunday then decide to actually call her something different?

SuziQuinto · 17/03/2024 19:32

LadyKenya · 17/03/2024 19:27

Yes, but judging from the silly comments, posters seem unaware of that fact. Nicole Kidman named her daughter Sunday Rose.

Yes but that's actors, they have to be "different".

ArcticBells · 17/03/2024 19:30

Your child will forever be asked why she was called Sunday. Please don't do it to her.

I was going to give a response but @Vroomfondleswaistcoat pretty much sums up my thoughts

DSD9472 · 17/03/2024 19:25

Why does she NEED a nn?

Geebray · 17/03/2024 19:24

You do understand that you are naming an adult Sunday?

LadyKenya · 17/03/2024 19:24

I thought that a nickname is something that occurs organically, just call her by her given name.

Dostadning · 17/03/2024 19:23

Pre-work dread day?

NotARealWookiie · 17/03/2024 19:23

Sunny D

I'm getting bugged with people who refer to shortening of names as 'nick names'. A nick name is an alternative name that someone is called, so something that most often has absolutely nothing to do with their actual name.

What most people mean is a short form of their child's name, not a nick name. And there's not much point in prescribing the short form (or indeed the nick name), as these will arise organically when the child is here.

SuziQuinto · 17/03/2024 19:19

Please don't call her after a day of the week. They're not babies forever and they have to live with it.

ZipZapZoom · 17/03/2024 19:18

LessOfMe99 · 17/03/2024 19:18

I think it will inevitably be Sunny whether you like it or not 🤷‍♀️

Agreed. It's going to be shortened to Sunny.

MississippiAF · 17/03/2024 19:18

‘Poor you’

Dearover · 17/03/2024 19:18

Why give her a quirky name if you don't plan to use it? Most nicknames evolve. Our DD is called Ed at home despite having a girls name which doesn't start with E or rhyme with Ed.

BeaRF75 · 17/03/2024 19:18

Why does she need a nickname? Just use her actual name - presumably you like it!
