I have 3 children and I love their names, and now I look back at what I almost called them and I don't think I'd of still liked some of the names now; anyone the same?

my first a little boy would have been either:

Ollie- still love it.

Ronnie- he'd have suited it. And love it still!

Herbie- this was actually my favourite at the time and now I can't quite believe it. Not my taste anymore

if he was a girl he'd have been Polly or Fluer

both I still like, but wouldn't use now.

my daughter came next, and for her we loved

Elora- still love it

Elowen- it's beautiful but wouldn't have suited her I don't think

Edie- I'll never get over my partner hating this name I think it's beautiful 💔

and boys we had Finn, Ozzy and Arlo as front runners

my third and final baby had her name before she was even conceived, but we did toy with the idea of

Izzie- which I like but I'm glad we didn't pick it

and Honey- which I will always love i think and would have suited her she has beautiful golden hair

if she was a boy I wanted Hugo which I stand by, lovely IMO

Ada Grace for DD but DH went off it and although I liked it I wasn't in love with it so I didn't mind looking for another name. I had a brief period when she was a week or two old of thinking that I should have called her Margot instead of the name that we had agreed on, but we'd already told everyone her name by then and the feeling subsided after about a week. DS - I liked Sebastian whilst expecting but DH kept singing Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid whenever I mentioned it. I also liked Elliott but DH wasn't keen. I really struggled to choose to be honest as nothing ever felt quite right- it took a while for me to get used to the name that we did eventually choose but its him now and I like it. Had our second been a girl DH had his heart set on the name Lorelei which I'm not keen on - turned out to be boy so we didn't have to have that awkward discussion (phew!) DH & DD wanted to call DS Charles/Charlie but (a) it just made me think of King (then Prince) Charles/I associated it with being an old person and (b) it was DH's grandfather's name. This wouldn't have been a problem but we were already using his (recently and unexpectedly deceased) father's name as a middle name and he'd have my husband's surname so having all 3 names from his side felt a bit much - like I'd done all the heavy lifting and not been acknowledged or didn't matter somehow - not sure it makes any sense I don't know why I felt like that about it probably silly really, but I said no & we went with something else.

My mum was going to call me Sabrina but someone told her there was a goddess called Sabrina with an unsavoury association of some kind so she changed her mind!

I had all boys but of they were girls they would have been
Madeleine
Elisabeth
Rachel
Kate

Or
Madeleine
Meredith
Camilla
Kate

This was pre the royals Camilla and Kate! 😂

My husband wanted Madison, which was a massive no from me !

Caffeineneedednow · 15/03/2024 18:53

Àine if we had a girl but had boys so never used it.

Had that one picked from the first 12 week scan took us alot longer to settle on a boys one

Hibernatalie · 15/03/2024 18:51

We have similar taste OP as Herbie and Edie were both on our lists - still love them.

Dd would have been Felix and DS would have been Margot.

piscofrisco · 15/03/2024 18:47

I wanted to call dd2 violet or daphne. She loves violet and hates daphne. But she hates what she was actually called too!

Wenttomowameadow · 15/03/2024 18:38

Locryn

FeetUpAndTeaPlease · 15/03/2024 18:37

James
Sebastian
Marcus
Juliet
Maria
Elizabeth

These were our only serious contenders when we had our babies (other than their actual names). I still love all of them, but don't want another 6 babies!

Carouselfish · 15/03/2024 18:35

Boy would have been.River or Jesse

Girl would have been Faye or Cleo.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 15/03/2024 18:27

my dd1 was almost Elsa (pre frozen) which I still love but has been ruined by the film. If she was a boy she would of been Albert or Oliver I still love both.

ds was almost Oliver he’d been a girl he’d of been Beatrice or Tabitha.

dd2 we only had one girls name which we used. If she’d been a boy she’d of been Oliver or possibly Robert.

lorisparkle · 15/03/2024 18:27

If we had a girl we thought about Lily. Luckily he wasn't a girl as in his class there were three Lilys and three other girls with similar names.

soupmaker · 15/03/2024 18:19

If I'd had a boy I wanted him to be Hamish. DH threatened divorce!

ILoveSalmonSpread · 15/03/2024 18:13

Lilly and Diggory.

So glad we didn't choose them. We had various names in mind but when they arrived the names didn't suit.
They now really suit the names that we actually chose.

BouleDeSuif · 15/03/2024 18:08

Julia, until she looked nothing like a Julia and I had to think of something else.
If she was a boy she would have been Jabez or Jerome.

Annymania · 15/03/2024 18:07

He was called Florian during the first couple of trimesters

SapphosRock · 15/03/2024 18:05

I wish I'd called my son Micah, it would have really suited him.

CaterhamReconstituted · 15/03/2024 18:04

Gillian. Don’t ask.

Natsku · 15/03/2024 18:03

My youngest was almost Aslak. I sometimes still wish I had named him that but his actual name does really suit him.

Toblerbone · 15/03/2024 17:55

Alistair - couldn't use for family reasons
Adam - doesn't sound right with our surname
Tess - loved this but also loved the name we did choose
William - DH vetoed

Mamette · 15/03/2024 17:41

Hope DH never sees this thread or my cover is blown.

Mamette · 15/03/2024 17:41

DD (22) would have been Christian which I wouldn’t choose now.

DS2 (8) was very nearly Gabriel

Moreteaandchocolate · 15/03/2024 17:40

Harriet or Imogen for a girl

Samuel or Zachary for a boy

ICanandIBloodyWill · 15/03/2024 17:39

I also wanted Digby but that got a hard veto.

ICanandIBloodyWill · 15/03/2024 17:37

Marnie for a girl. Donovan was the alternative boys name.

DelusionalBrilliance · 15/03/2024 17:37

Claudia
Wren
Emerald (I honestly don’t know, don’t ask. Hormones?)
Marnie
Celeste
Sorrel

Both girls ended up with very standard/boring every day British names 😂

KnitnNatterAuntie · 15/03/2024 17:32

This isn't about my DC . . . it's about me!

Shortly before my DM died she told me that she had had a lovely name picked out for me but my DF had refused to consider it. I asked her what the name was and she said it was Ursula

I've got a name that was quite common when I was born and I'm extremely grateful to DF for my name
