Don't mind the sound, but don't like the associations?

Any names where you like how the name sounds, but wouldn't use it because of associations(both personal ones and famous people/characters)?

Also Maxine

Newsenmum · 30/03/2024 13:02

Camilla - I think of a beautiful Spanish name but now I see it as posh/parker-bowels

Ariana - grande

Madalena - maddy and therefore Mccann

blair - Tony

whiskeycats · 30/03/2024 12:52

I love the name Myra but could never use it

SplodgeOfCustard · 27/03/2024 19:54

Pippa - It doesn't travel well.

genericbrunette · 09/03/2024 15:32

Alexa, beautiful name ruined by the device!

Camilla, Charles' mistress (how my family see her)

CherryRipe1 · 05/03/2024 17:40

Candida (a little songbird told me)

PaintedEgg · 05/03/2024 17:34

Helena (not Helen) - love the name, but too strong of an association with an actor
Rowan - again, actor association, not a bad, just too strong
Rose - I love the name, but my mum had a nasty neighbour called that and I'd never hear the end of it!

LadyDanburysHat · 05/03/2024 13:04

Lolita

AmeliaEarhart · 05/03/2024 13:04

Ralph is great and was my grandfather’s name BUT… it’s also a euphemism for vomiting where I come from. Sad.

Oldermum84 · 05/03/2024 12:59

Harvey.

If I had the cajones for it I'd have loved to have named my son Kerouac.

But...

a) it's too much, too pretentious
b) no girl name I like would go with it- my taste in female names is very conventional
c) it would sound absolutely mental with my surname. Would actually sound good with my maiden name though.

I love this idea for a name!😍

I met a lovely young woman named Isis.

Beautiful name but....

I wanted to call dd Isis - or Lorelei, as up thread, but Isis was the front runner.
Fortunately for her, dh had a better grip on current affairs than me when I was expecting her 13 years ago.
I still think it's a lovely name.

MelonSmoothie · 05/03/2024 10:26

Alexa
Madeline

Mrsbeauxjingles · 05/03/2024 10:25

@TheCatOnMorrisseysHead

I like it too but it's definitely got "you, me and little Hemingway Bing" vibes.

😁

Lorelei

Would have bern DD's name if it hadn't been for those naughty sirens.

StrawberryEater · 05/03/2024 08:11

Lolita
Ophelia

Both pretty, but…

Medical terminology.

Yes, me too! I did a study on risk factors for limb defects as a med student so def all I can hear with Amelia!

Also Lucas. Lovely name but ruined for me by the Lucas device (brutal but effective CPR machine!)

VincentVanGoth · 04/03/2024 18:43

Nevaeh. Lovely sounding but 🤮

Agree with this. It sounds lovely but I always think it looks like a retired couple's bungalow name.
I like the name Matthew but don't like how Matt makes me think of a doormat or knots on a Persian cat.

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 05/03/2024 07:28

Aryan. It's a beautiful Indian name but... yeah. I know a few parents who have named their child it but they have no idea of the connotations.
