Shae for a girl?

I just made a post for Shiloh but my partner has now thrown Shae into the mix. We like gender neutral names but I particularly like Shae for a girl. What are your thoughts? Also would you spell it Shae/Shea/Shay/Shaye?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

After the murdered prostitute in GoT? Probably a bit too soon. In a few years, the link might be less obvious.

Barleysugar86 · 02/03/2024 00:24

I quite like it. I'd imagine a Shae to be fiesty and strong, pretty, probably working class, probably black or mixed race.

I think it’s awful, the sort of name i’d expect the kids on the Teen Moms programme to use!

^ it's actually an Irish name. There is a whole world and cultures outside of traditional white English names.

The Irish name is short for Seamus.
A male name.

QueenBitch666 · 02/03/2024 00:11

It's seriously pants. Poor kid

londonmummy1966 · 02/03/2024 00:11

I had a Shae work for me once - she was a lovely hard working and cheerful girl so I really like the name. If nothing else then thank you for the thread and reminding me of her.

3pSweet · 02/03/2024 00:01

Family member called Chié pr. Shay - she’s 67 today!

Ecnerual · 01/03/2024 23:53

I like it. It's an Irish name and I know a couple of Shays (teen and twenties, both male), but it has a neutral feel to it and I wouldn't find it odd for a girl.

FluffyToesMeow · 01/03/2024 23:52

My honest opinion...

Shiloh literally means Jesus.
Shae just sounds like shea butter
Raye is so horrible, it's a 60yr old plumber's name. Just no.

Sorry. You did ask.

CatchHimDerry · 01/03/2024 23:48

The one I know is Shay, can’t remember if there’s an “e”… Male

mathanxiety · 01/03/2024 23:48

Shayla (suggested here a few times) would be firmly in Bogan territory imo.

Isthisreasonable · 01/03/2024 23:47

You'd be condemning your child to a lifetime of endlessly having to spell out their name to people.

FluffyToesMeow · 01/03/2024 23:47

Dominoeffecter · 01/03/2024 19:04

What about Raye

God no!

mathanxiety · 01/03/2024 23:45

The only Sheas or Shays I known are girls.

One got a lacrosse scholarship to an Ivy League university. (Shea, like the Irish surname).

I like the name. I think it has a vaguely hippie / boho vibe.

FluffyToesMeow · 01/03/2024 23:44

Why?

Was this to me?

I live a gender neutral name but Shae would 100% be counted as a “bogan” name in Australia…I wouldn’t do it. Shiloh is a bit better. What about Rowan or Quinn? Not for everyone but I like them for a girl.

I love* 🤦‍♀️

There's a female Shay at one of the toddler groups I go to. She'd about 2 maybe. I also know a dog called Che pronounced the same way. The problem is I just think of Che Geuvara.

I think it’s not trying hard enough..

theduchessofspork · 01/03/2024 22:59

Shea butter or the hooker on GOT so no from me

Lilysienna1 · 01/03/2024 21:26

My daughter has a friend named Shayla. It’s not to my taste but could be an option for you? Or perhaps Shae as a middle name? Other names you might like: Rae, Beau, Jay, Kay / Kayla, Robyn, Billie.

Grumpsy · 01/03/2024 20:49

Another who’s first thought was the prostitute in Game of Thrones

Whu · 01/03/2024 20:48

I know a Shaylea (shay-lee) nn Shay.

everythinglooksbetterpaintedblack · 01/03/2024 20:47

It's the prostitutes name in GOT
Please don't.
