Shae for a girl?

Samzzz · 01/03/2024 17:48

I just made a post for Shiloh but my partner has now thrown Shae into the mix. We like gender neutral names but I particularly like Shae for a girl. What are your thoughts? Also would you spell it Shae/Shea/Shay/Shaye?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

You'd be condemning your child to a lifetime of endlessly having to spell out their name to people.

Would you say the same for Catherine or Juliet? I have a top 10 name and I still have to spell it because there are variants. .

buzzlightyearsaway · 02/03/2024 10:24

It's just a sound. Not a name

fixies · 02/03/2024 10:23

Shae is a lovely, gender neutral name.

Op there are plenty of unisex names that are better than that ...
Avery
Alex
Briar
Charlie
Drew
Ellis
Elliott
Frankie
Jules
Kit
Noah/ Noa
Quinn
Remi
Robyn/Robin
Stevie

Very pretty name OP

OldBeyondMyYears · 02/03/2024 08:23

OP it's really nothing to do with 'not being Arabella..' etc.

Your child, your choice of name...of course...but you specifically asked for opinions, and that's what you got 🤷‍♀️

My opinion is that it's not a very nice name for a child...but it doesn't matter what I think, if you love it, crack on!

It’s beautiful. I prefer the Shay spelling.

Also word of advice, don’t ask for comments about names on mumsnet that aren’t biblical or royal. You will just get torn down 🤣

I appreciate all the comments and opinions but have come to realise if it’s not Arabella, Charlotte or Chloe then it’s most likely not getting the best response 😂

How about Shaedeigh?

“What do you think of the name Shae?”

Another helpful poster offers Sibyl and Suzanne as alternatives. Like WTF 🤣

Omg some absolute nutjobs on here 🤣

My son is "Shay" , it's very popular here in Ireland for a boy. But I think it's lovely for a girl outside Ireland. Id go with "Shaye" for a girl 😊

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 02/03/2024 05:00

I know a Shae- never even thought about GOT!

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 02/03/2024 04:09

What about Stevie?

usernother · 02/03/2024 03:58

No. It's worse than Shiloh. She'll spend her life having to spell it out and people will think she's a boy before they meet her. Why are you so insistent on giving your children odd names?

Tatonka · 02/03/2024 02:36

Alaina7 · 01/03/2024 18:39

It’s a bit chavvy and also a bit beige.

Beige. Olivia is beige.

Tatonka · 02/03/2024 02:36

Love it. Know two boys and a girl with this name (older, 20 & 30s)

TheOriginalEmu · 02/03/2024 02:32

NoCloudsAllowed · 01/03/2024 18:14

Not nice

Reminds me of che Guevara

But desperate sounding

Also 'she's Shae, isn't she?' 'what did Shae say'

Ché Guevara is pronounced with a hard ch like change.

@Samzzz I know a Chey and a Shaye. I prefer the first spelling but I love the name. Mumsnet only likes Harriet and such.

NerdyBird · 02/03/2024 01:38

It reminds me of Dream Home Makeover and Shea (pronounced Shay) McGee. Never read or watched Game of Thrones so I don't associate the name with that.

Babla · 02/03/2024 01:10

Shaela

That's Sheila in Australian!

DreamTheMoors · 02/03/2024 00:43

We went through a series of names and my mum said, “how would a 95-year-old ‘Shae’ sound?”
So every time we thought about a name, we thought, “how would a 95-year-old ‘X’ sound?”
There’s gonna be a lot of crazy sounding 95-year-olds in 90 years.
I say choose something that won’t embarrass your child when they’re 95.
I also say - she’s your baby. Name her anything your heart desires.
The important thing is that Shae is kind and good and decent, no matter her name.

Xylophonics · 02/03/2024 00:35

Or Shaela
Shaena

Xylophonics · 02/03/2024 00:35

What about Sharen or Shayleigh

Babla · 02/03/2024 00:33

Noooooo
