We are really struggling to decide on a name. Our 4yo is called Charlotte and our current list is

Phoebe
Ella
Erin
Freya
Emily

which of these would be your favourite and are there any you dislike?

Freya by a mile! Great, strong, independent name.
Then:
Emily
Phoebe

Ella (1/2 a name & way too many of them at the moment)

Erin. It's very spikey!

herecomesthesun24 · 20/02/2024 18:24

I wouldn’t worry it’s the person you end up loving rather than the name. The names you mentioned are all nice, shouldn’t date horribly & could belong to women in any profession.

How about Ellen, Elspeth or Imogen?

Otherwise I would just go with what works with your surname best.

DuchessOfSausage · 20/02/2024 18:03

Phoebe - like
Ella - overused
Erin - don't like
Freya - don't like
Emily - ok, prefer Emma. Goes well with Charlotte

Zorbiez · 20/02/2024 14:43

Emily or Freya

Cantmakemymindup2 · 20/02/2024 14:41

I’m still just as stuck after all these responses. My partner only likes what he considers ‘normal names’ and I like some that are a bit more unusual but not too unusual. When we had our first daughter we had no names that we absolutely loved and we are the same again this time. These are just the only names that neither of us have ruled out. So although we like these names we don’t love them. We have 3 months left to decide anyway, but these last 6 months have flown by 😅

Freya is the best. Erin is the worst.

PennyPugwash · 20/02/2024 10:28

Phoebe is very cute. I absolutely detest Freya

Alldoke · 20/02/2024 10:23

Phoebe - love but different vibe to Charlotte I think, if that bothers you
Ella - a bit blah and nothingy, especially next to Charlotte
Erin - really like this too
Emily - ok, works well with Charlotte
Freya - ok

Broodywuz · 20/02/2024 10:02

All lovely names and I think they all go very nicely with CharIotte.
I think it depends where you are with the popularity, in Scotland Erin is quite popular.

mihele · 20/02/2024 09:55

Ella and Emily.

BoleynMemories13 · 20/02/2024 09:54

Erin is by far the least popular. Not that I personally think popularity matters (and I'm guessing you don't either with a Charlotte already) but just thought it was worth mentioning as it makes it stand out for me on your list for that reason.

For me the others are all much of a muchness but that's not a bad thing, it's because they're all nice and of a similar level of popularity so there's not much between them in that sense.

Emily is much least favourite, just because I find it a bit dull and with Charlotte it's very 'Bronte' (although some might love that connection, for me I find Emily very predictable with Charlotte because of this). I was going to suggest Emma too as Emma is sparkler than Emily and makes for a gorgeous timeless sibset with Charlotte.

Have you considered Alice or Grace? Both would fit perfectly with Charlotte. Or Olivia. I love the suggestion of Eloise too. It seems to flow better with Charlotte than Ella. Eleanor could be another, very classic, option?

ShakespeareInTurmoil · 19/02/2024 23:11

Emily is my favourite. Classic and goes beautifully with Charlotte.

Hate Ella. Overdone and just about acceptable on a small child but dreadful for an adult.

Yes - if you go go for Ella I’d at least give her Eleanor / Eloise / Elizabeth / Elsbeth etc as a first name - any of these go nicely with Charlotte

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 19/02/2024 23:18

I like Phoebe best but Emily goes best with Charlotte.

herecomesthesun24 · 19/02/2024 23:16

I don't dislike any of those names and Erin is my favourite, Phoebe probably my least.

I think Abigail would go nicely with Charlotte, possible nicknames Lottie and Abbie

ShakespeareInTurmoil · 19/02/2024 23:11

Emily is my favourite. Classic and goes beautifully with Charlotte.

Hate Ella. Overdone and just about acceptable on a small child but dreadful for an adult.

NewName24 · 19/02/2024 23:08

Emily
then Erin

Though I prefer Emma

theduchessofspork · 19/02/2024 23:03

Phoebe - it goes nicely and it’s a nice name

Second choice Emily - although if you went for Emma I’d put that above Phoebe

Ella is overdone, Erin and Freya a bit odd in combination with Charlotte.

Maybe -

Felicity
Eloise
Philippa nn Pippa
Flora
Cecile
Constance
Catherine

BungleandGeorge · 19/02/2024 22:59

I think Emily goes best as it’s the same type of name and I like the Brontë connection. They’re all nice though

Daisybuttercup12345 · 19/02/2024 22:58

Love Emily/Emma.
Like Freya.
Not keen on the others.

Porfirio · 19/02/2024 22:56

Phoebe no
Ella nice
Erin lovely
Freya ok
Emily ok

CJ4713 · 19/02/2024 22:39

Phoebe - nice
Ella- nice, but might be considered a nn for Eleanor or something else
Erin- my favourite
Freya- least favourite. Might get spelt Freyja or other ways
Emily- like, but too common

I actually don't dislike any of your names- which is unusual for MN name suggestions! I also like Elisse/Elise.

shoopshoopdedoo · 19/02/2024 22:34

I like them all. Phoebe is my favourite, followed by Emily and Erin.

thatneverhappened · 19/02/2024 22:32

I'm not a fan of Phoebe but all your other names were on my list for DD2. DH wouldn't commit to any of them though

Scottishgirl85 · 19/02/2024 22:28

Or Eloise?

Scottishgirl85 · 19/02/2024 22:27

Hmm, Phoebe from your list. Others are bland and you'll meet loads.
You seem to like E names and vowels. What about Elena?
